I had my wisdom teeth surgically removed because of them being impacted, they had grown downward into the jaw bone. I could say the third day was the hardest because by then the numbness was wearing off and that had helped control the pain.

My swelling started almost immediately. If you do start to get swelling, put some ice packs on it. That will also help control the pain.

The swelling lastest for about a week, I looked like I had been in a fight and got the worst part of the punches.

The swelling was about as large as it was going to be at about the third day but I kept ice packs on like I was told. You do need to take them off every ten minutes or so but I couldn't stand the pain without them. So I had them on longer and more often than I was told.

The number of days really has nothing to do with it. If you were going to have any problems then i'm sure that you will experience them before the third day. And yes, as long as you don't get any dry sockets, you will probably have nothing to worry about. Just make sure to do your warm salt water swishes (gently) and avoid doing anything that can cause a dry socket (no straws, smoking, or any other type of suction action for a few days)

The swelling will go down. I would say within that week after your teeth were extracted. Again, warm salt water rinses--very important! The swelling will not increase as time progresses. If soreness is still present, try Tylenol, Aleve, or Advil--those meds should take care of it.

I really hope that this helps you and best wishes with healing!!

I believe that when I had my wisdom teeth removed the second day was hardest because the first day you just feel like crap from the IV sedation and the second day I was hungry and wasn't tired so I couldn't sleep through it. I think it will depend on how well you deal with pain and how your body handles the pain medication.
Swelling would start immediately. Maybe you got lucky and didn't swell much. You would swell over time but you would have noticed if you were going to swell by now. You must have done a good job keeping your head elevated and keeping ice on it.
Swelling depends on the person but usually is completely gone in 2 weeks.
Swelling will probably not get larger, it should shrink as you heal.

usually around the thirs day is when the swelling is at it's worst and it should be gone within a week.you may not have a problem. each surgery is different as is the person having it. you still need to watch out for dry socket though. keep the area free of food and don't use straws as this could cause some problems. take ibuprofin to help with any pain and to help ward off any additional swelling.

I had all 4 pulled at one time, which was horrible because when I had to change the gauze, I got the dreaded "dry socket" pain which sent me thru the roof! I remember swelling but not like my face got distorted or anything. This was also like 25 years ago, but I'm sure not much has changed since then. Just make sure you've got alot of ice, salt and Tylenol on hand.

No, if nothing is wrong by now, you will be fine. :)

Swelling usually starts on the same day.

Swelling usually lasts about 4 days or so but it can be more or less.

The swelling should not get larger after the second day of swelling.

And lucky you... no dry sockets. Dry sockets are absolutely no fun!!

Hey I just got mine out yesterday too. I am so afraid of getting dry socket. And I am in a lot of pain. Vicodin arent doing too good. And I am getting a lot of swelling too. I am using an ice pack. It also helps a little with the pain. But I am doing everything the dentist told me too. Hope you feel better. You can email me if you want to talk more.

Your jaw is going to swell. As well as the area under your chin. I bruise easily so I had massive bruises due to the swelling, I got constant questions about rather I had gotten into a fight when I went back to work a week later. If the anastesia works correctly, you're not going to care too much about having an iv in your arm :d Stock up on some ice cream.

if you just got them out yesterday, you could still get dry sockets, so be careful.. and it depends on the person, i swelled up alot the same day and it lasted like 5 days.. but i had friends who werent that bad., and some that barely swelled at all.
