I think that instead of a "diet," you'd probably benefit from a complete lifestyle change. Once you incorporate healthy eating with exercise, you'll start to feel better (mentally and physically) and essentially you will want to continue eating healthy and exercising without feeling like it's such a struggle.

And the best answer goes to..... cj!
cj got it right. u dont need a "diet" u need a change in lifestyle. Eat a healthy varied diet & get regular exercise. There is no secret diet or magic pill or potion.
Go and do some research about healthy living & about proper exercise. A little knowledge goes a long way!

Forget lowering carbohydrates & increasing protein! Thats stupid & ill informed! Protein & carbohydrates have about the same amount of energy. Carbohydrates R actually a more efficient way of getting energy because they release energy in a more sustained way. To lose weight u need to eat an appropriate amount of energy for the amount u expend through exercise & living each day. but if u obtain all the energy u need for the day in one burst then u will be hungry later on. So eat a healthy varied diet & eat regular meals throughout the day. Eat an appropriate amount & do some exercise.

find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)
it might seem hard in the beginning but i have been following this healthy eating plan for 2 years now and i dont even have to count anything or think what i can and cant eat.

I've tried everything under the sun. any diet pill you lose weight on ....tou gain it back soon after you stop taking. I've discovered cutting back on calories has helped me the most. keep track of everything you eat. stay under 1200 cals. breakfast I have a fruit cereal bar, then at lunch maybe a protein bar of some sort and then reg healty dinner. and don't forget those 100 calorie packs of everything help you not to over eat too! and do't forget some kind of exercise three times min. per wk.

the diet depends on how much your trying too lose... a pretty simple way to lose weight is lower the amount of calories you take in and lower the carbs you also take-in, increase your protein, depending on how tall and how much you weigh....and increase your cardo
