If you want to avoid diabetes you need to eat healthy and exercise so that you can drop the extra weight. Your doctor can do a few tests to determine if you have diabetes and also to check to make sure there isn't something else causing your symptoms. You can also check to make sure you are in shape to start a good exercise regimen. Start with some simple lifestyle changes including incorporating more walking in your daily life, parking farther away from where you need to go, using stairs instead of elevators, spending more time at work on your feet.

There is 6.2 grams of sugars in a 3.5 oz. serving of watermelon.

Watermelon is not only great on a hot summer day, this delectable thirst-quencher may also help quench the inflammation that contributes to conditions like asthma, arteriosclerosis, diabetes, colon cancer, and arthritis. It's being touted as so healthful it should be stored in your medicine chest. DietPower.com has declared watermelon one of "The 10 Best Foods."

Check out the 2nd link below for al little more detailed info on how the benefits of the nutritional value of watermelon far outweigh the sugar factor.

My mom has diabetes and eats all fruit in moderation. I say enjoy the watermelon occasionally (and in moderation), but montior closely what it does to your sugar since the fruit is VERY sugary.

This is, of course, unless your doctor tells you differently depending on the type of diabetes you have.

Yes, but only in moderation. Make sure, too, that you don't eat watermelon on an empty stomach.

yes but in moderation as it has a high glycaemic index...' sugary' raising the blood glucose fast and remain high in the body. You could enjoy it by saving some later, having it after other meals and never take it solely as a snack by itself....high concentrated sugar ( fructose ) at one go.
