This was very inconsiderate of your Pastor and is actually bad theology, there is no scripture that states Babies go to Hell, it does say that we must be baptized with water and the Holy Spirit to inherit eternal life.
Now if a baby dies without baptism does this automatically mean that it will go to Hell?
As you probably know we had this problem within the Catholic church until Pope Benedict said that we simply do not know with any surety but that the mercy of God will encompass and allow for such an event in ways that we do not comprehend, and that with God all things are possible.
It is never our right or perogative to condemn another to Hell as Christ is the only Judge and He is just, unlike us.

WHAT!? thats just ridiculous. ur pastor is an idiot.
honey you need to get out of that church. next thing ur pastor will be doing is beating down some kid with a bible who comes in looking a little different and hollering he is a satanist.
Yes I do believe that God will appreciate if you baptise your baby. But if he did pass away ( God forbid) your child would happily be recieved in heaven.
it clearly says...in the bible..That God will have His people..Even if he has to take the babies from the Mother's.
but that doesnt meant He is going to take your baby right now. its just a passage in the bible. Dont panic..lol

Listen...
The Bible never says babies go to Hell. The thing is some Preachers think they know all the answers, however "not all"
get their answers from the Bible, but from their own faulty understanding.
This is the BIGGEST mistake they are making! An infant doesn't know sin when they are born, all they know at that moment is what comes natural to them...being a baby.
Our Lord would not condemn an infant to Hell.
I've read the Bible...and I have never read such Scripture of that nature.

Its not in the Bible. Your baby should only be baptized when he/she is old enough and knowledgeable enough to make an informed decision.
Baptism is supposed to be done as a sign of obedience to God. How can your baby be held accountable if he she is not even old enough to know right from wrong.
Read the book of Acts. Paul did not go around baptizing babies. There was never a baby baptized, it was all adults who had made the decision to follow Christ.

I'm horrified by the anger and intolerance in both Ingersoll's words and some of the people who have posted here against him. I think Ingersoll's language is offensive and his understanding of Christianity simple minded, but I also feel disgusted by the people who feel he should go to Hell. I for one abhor the emphasis put on Hell in so much of Christianity. There is very little mention of Hell in the Gospels and next to no mention of it at all in the Old Testament. The spiritual football match between God and the Devil in which the human soul is used as the ball created by the established Churches turns the message of Christ from one of love, humanity, hope and transcendence into one of fear and hate. Having said that, Ingersoll's intepretation of the idea of sinning against the Holy Ghost is so simple minded its unbelievable. Forgiveness is earnt but the Christian idea of forgiveness is based on the notion that people can change. Its ironic that Ingersoll, in one breath, condemns a God which sends people to Hell and in another condemns a God which is willing to forgive sin, thus freeing them from Hell! At the same time, he misunderstands what sinning against the Holy Spirit is. If the Holy Spirit is the means by which God manifests himself in Man then to sin against the Holy Spirit is to commit a crime against Humanity that is so great its incomprehensible. In the end, if people are going to argue over a simple minded view of Christianity they are welcome to it. When I think of the incredible sophistication and complexity of early Christian thought right up to the 15thC I am flabbergasted at how simplistic peoples' understanding of the Christian Mysteries have become... And we think we are the summit of mental achievement? Hah!

The Bible does not state that babies will go to hell if they are not baptized. Ask him where it says that.

It doesn't. Plain and simple. Ask HIM where the Bible states that a baby has to be baptized.

You should've asked him that question, I'm sure he wouldn't be able to show you; because it doesn't. Ask him since God knows the baby in the womb (Jeremiah) and it is miscarried or stillborn does it go to hell?
Ask him about what all Jesus said about children. Ask him about Mat. 18:3.
EDIT: If baptizing saves people, we wouldn't need Jesus. And if someone claims we need to be saved AND be baptized to reach Heaven, ask them to point out where Jesus baptized someone. If it was that important I think Jesus would have done it himself.
