The National Academies of Science in their 2005 blue-ribbon panel report, Rising Above the Gathering Storm, find:
Only 29 percent of 4th grade students, 32 percent of 8th grade students, and 18 percent of 12th grade students performed at or above the proficient level in science;
Almost 30 percent of high school mathematics students and 60 percent of those enrolled in physical science have teachers who either did not major in the subject in college or are not certified to teach it;
The U.S. ranks 16th of 17 nations in the proportion of 24-year-olds who earn degrees in natural science or engineering as opposed to other majors

There's a lot of money involved and those propagating Creationism are exploiting the herd instinct. Creationism is just a product that communities think they need to have if they are to fit in with everyone else. There's no good reason why people should all drink one or two brands of sugary, cola flavoured fizzy water, but they've been conditioned into thinking they want it. Same with creationism. Both fake.

Its sad really that not many Americans believe in evolution. To each his own, as long as they do not pass a law and remove science from society; if that happens then we are in trouble, until then. Let those who believe in creation believe in it and leave the rest that believe in evolution alone

I guess they all suffer from some crazy disease, people that believe in creation subscribe to some other "wild" beliefs as well, such as:
- babies are living humans, and abortion is murder
- abstinence is the only 100% safe sex
- no such thing as a "gay" gene
- there are moral absolutes
- all things physical have a beginning and end
- there are no transitional fossils
- nature has a clear design
- truth is not relative

Because our nation was founded on a belief that God exists, and wants us to have our freedom (or inaliable rights). The reason America has become so rich and powerful is that this nation was built on Biblical principles. These principles guarantee happiness if you follow them. Now that this nation is turning away from God, and Biblical principles - who knows how long our freedom will last...
