I have a problem with your terminology here. By definition death is an irreversible state. Yes it is possible for a person to be in a state which may be misdiagnosed as death by an inexperienced physician or layman and return to "life". Patients with head injuries, certain kinds of drug overdosages, drowning in cold water etc can be unresponsive and have no detectable respiration or heart beat but may be resuscitated or may recover as their body temperature improves. The key to any kind of neurological recovery is that during this period the metabolic activity of the brain should be very low either due to the effect of sedative drugs or due to the effect of low temperatures. This is obviously very rare and also dependent on death being declared by a layman or a not very smart physician.

The question would be the definition of dead... dead with NO help for 55 minutes.. first why would you WANT them to be brought back... if there has been no oxygen going to the brain for that long, they are not going to have ANY type of mental capacity.... If we are talking about someone that has been on life support... with brain activity ... I guess it could happen.. BUT again... are you sure you would want them to survive the ordeal and NOT be anything like the person they were.... or not be functioning at all???
My dad had a blood clot go to his heart.. he was as they put it down for at least 10 minutes before paramedics arrived... they revived him... transported him to the hospital.. lost him 2 more times enroute...... again brought him back... We as a family made the decission to remove him from the life support machines after 24 hours and 3 non responsieve EEG's.... I watched this man that had always been so vital... so alive and full of life and fun.. convulse because of lack of oxygen to the brain... and I knew he would never be my dad again.. he would be a shell... and possibly never have any recognition of anything again... is that what you would want for your self????

Yes. Read the book 90 minutes in Heaven.
It's based on a true story about a preacher that was in a car wreck and was pronounced dead-- 90 mins later another preacher was praying for him and singing and the "dead" guy started singing... he went through years of rehab- and the book tells all of it.

It depends on the situation, most never do come back that long and some do if their time is not done here on Earth with no damages would considered that as a miracle.

several years back I read a story, claimed to be real, in Reader's Digest, tha a person died while driving a car when he was stopped at a light signal and how efficiently, the medical system in USA workd, and saved his life. there may be different stages in the process of death. at what stage that became possible, i donot know.

Yes it is possible.
May be he is just fainted or entered a coma.
I am going to talk about something which may be beneficial for you.
I am 4th year pharmacy and at the last day of exam which is exactly from 12 days.
Directly, after ending my written and oral exams of the "puplic health" subject (A precusor forr Microbiology)
I fainted and i didn't know what happened after and i found my self in the hospital and my mum is in front of me and i asked her what had happened and why i am here.
She told you fainted for 3 days and it was not a sleep.
You was semi-dead.
The doctor said because simply she didn't sleep for14 days and really i was working, studying and examining continously
