In contrasting our style versus the Israelis, it seems that they would go to the source. We on the other hand seem to try to neutralize the bombs after they are planted or perhaps search for them in storage areas. We also provide body armor to our military personnel and armor the vehicles. We should continue to do these things but add military strikes over Iran to destroy the factories used to make bombs. We should also destroy all the roads and bridges leading into Iraq. Israel did this with Lebanon and it was a big success. We can tell the world that we must do this for the safety of our soldiers and marines.

I have a few additional ideas I'd like to mention after reading all the answers so far. First, I'm "blown away" (maybe that's a poor choice of phrases lol lol) by all the smart people and these ideas are based on what has already been said. Plus anyway that would like to add to their answer, "please do". Ok lets say bombs are made not in factories but by evil individuals. Well the chemicals and gunpowder used to make them should be denied to these persons. Perhaps as one person stated, a blocade of Iran to remove any chemicals and other metal used in the making of bombs. Aso, we could declare these ships carrying such contraband as unlawful and confiscate them. The ships seized could be resold and the money used to fund relief programs for soldiers and marines injured and killed (their families in that case, unfortunately). Also, the assets of the shipping companies could be seized as a criminal enterprise. Oh regarding Israel, I believe that they were successful.

The roadside bombs are actually Chinese made artillery shells
they have been modified with detonators ranging from cell phones to hard wired with a plunger
some are even set up in relay to trip other mines

body armor has limited use ( it can not stop a rifle shell or protect from an explosion ) a nearby bomb turns flesh to jelly

Iran simply supplies extremists to set off bombs, and shoot patrolling soldiers

We are using many techniques to neutralize the bombs - but they adapt and change tactics

What should have been done long ago was to secure the borders ( but we are not even securing ours now )
Iranians look just like Iraquis - Bummer
Before we entered the Country we should have planned for what to do to maintain the peace ( Hint *** were we wanted there )

What now - those in the know think that disarming the Country door to door is about the only solution - the politicians instead favor doing nothing and dealing with - acceptable losses - as long as those in charge see our troop loss as acceptable, no changes will take place

Well done. You notice on these stories they never show the actual item with the id on it. We are to take their word for this. But, it also reminds me of an old joke in which the punch line was about a man who, hopelessly outmatched, uses the only trick he had to win and everyone was upset because he wasn't fighting fair. We sell weapons and technology to anyone and everyone, and so do all the arms dealers in the world. We show up on the battlefield with all the latest in goodies for our soldiers, and when the terrorists come up with a weapon to slow us down a bit, we cry foul. We think it is perfectly fair to have weapons like bunker busters, cluster bombs, depleted uranium, napalm, etc etc. Do we really believe that others will not get similar weapons in a fight to the death. They Will get them any way they can. If Florida was under attack and Georgia supplied them with weapons, who would be surprised? They are neighbors. Arabs are tribes spread across recently drawn and arbitrary borders, and to expect them to not assist each other across these imaginary lines is probably asking too much. It is BushOilCo who is in the wrong neighborhood. It is they who should leave.

Uhh... there are no factories. Bombs are really quite easy to make...with the right materials. There are hundreds of undefended armories with tank shells, explosives, etc just laying around. It would be quite easy to steal one and wire it. There you go you just made a road-side bomb!!!

P.S. i really hope you mispelled Iraq with an N. Because there is no definite proof that Iran supply terroists or whatever. And I pray to god you don't get involved with politics. BTW we are trying to help Iraq... destroying bridiges and roads might delay terroists, but it would destroy the Iraq's economy and would require us to spend even more money on repairs. As far as I'm concerned, im pretty sure Israel didn't take over Lebanon.

You should visit the Iran/Iraq border. There are no roads and bridges. Just lots of hills, valleys and rugged terrain.
IED's are sometimes only two or three land mines stacked, wired together, with an electronic detonator such as a battery and cell phone.
These bombs can be put together in someone's living room.

The detonators, electronics, cell phone batteries can be brought in on donkeys in the dead of night. There is not enough man power to line people up along every inch of the border.

There really is nothing to bomb in Iran. No huge buildings, no stock piles, no ammo dumps.

A very effective way to deal with Iran is also nonviolent.

That is to blockade Iran to prevent them from exporting any oil.

A blockade will shut off the supply of money that Iran needs to buy nuclear and conventional weapons and fund terrorists.

There is good precedent for a blockade.

President John Kennedy blockaded Cuba in the 1960's to prevent Cuba from receiving and installing nuclear missiles.

Iran has committed numerous acts of war against us with its terrorism and threats.

A blockade is a minimal nonviolent response to Iranian terrorism. A blockade will also be a very effective response. because Iran cannot acquire nuclear weapons technology, fund terrorism, and provide military support to the terrorists in Iraq with out the money that Iran gets from exporting oil.

You have a good idea, but it should be done World Wide. Why don't we or everybody destroys all the bombs in the World so there won't be any more wars. Let no country on earth posses bombs or weapons or anything that kills human beings so there can be peace on earth.

The bombs are not factory-made...they're mostly jury-rigged things or anti-personell devices bought on the black market though various covert contacts sympathetic to the terrorists. There's no big building in Iran that says "Bomb Factory" on it.

there are no factories, the EFP's are easy to make and manufactured by common people. This is just propaganda to pressure Iran and it's not working. P.S. israels last attack on lebanon was considered a failure. An attack on iran would mean $10/gal gas, it's just not worth it.

My understanding is that much of that improvised ordinance is being made right in Iraq, out of weapons and ammo we didn't bother to locate and take control of during the invasion.

I guess we were too busy guarding the oil infrastructure.

in that region there is a black market, people have many weapons. there is no proof Iran supplied them. by your reasoning Israel should bomb us over Hezbolla having TOWs and Hamas having M16s. actually Israel would have to bomb themselves over the M16s hamas has,it is where they came from
