Oscar flails his arms and spits and screams "God sucks! God sucks!" I have NEVER utilized such language in my home; we do not own a TV; the children do not attend a nursery; my husband is a respected priest here in our hometown, and the only person he possibly could have heard the word "sucks" from is his nasty 3 year-old cousin. I keep her and her family away from my home and I have Oscar in time-out nearly every 2 seconds, but still he will not obey. If I tell them to go to bed, Felix will run delightedly to his crib but Oscar will just stand there, screaming and bubbling and drooling, absolutely refusing to go and when I tell him Jesus wants him to be a good boy he literally gurgles in tongues. Both have a finely developed sense of speech for their ages but when Oscar is enraged he spits out foreign, twisted words.

I am deeply afraid my son is either an atheist or mentally retarded. I can handle the latter. Please help. How can we train him up correctly, like his brother?

Hi Mary, thank you for your answer. But who's Simone? Has she been near my Oscar?

Brother I feel your pain. When I encountered similar problems with my 14 month old Chihuahua I purchased a squeaky Jesus toy and soaked it in codeine linctus each day. Soon little Suki became so dependent that now she is never far from Jesus. You might try something similar with your children. I know it seems a bit extreme. You may wish to consider chopping of the end of their penis instead.

Um? Since he is only 14 months, he is below the age of reason. He is obviously acting out for a reason. Children don't respond the way adults do. They don't have a rational thought process yet. They don't have the vocabulary or communications skills yet. They don't understand why they feel bad or upset and will often act out in frustration because they cannot communicate what they are feeling or what their needs are - large vocabulary for a 14 month old or not.
Kids come in all sizes and all temperments. Try to teach your child how to communicate in a contructive way. Be patient - YOU are the ADULT. If you get frustrated, that will only make the situation worse. Don't expect a child to be good all of the time - they are not.

Since he seems to get enraged when you speak to him about God, it could be a problem with your approach about God. God still loves your little one whether he is throwing a tantrum or not - so you should too. If you treat your son like he is bad (which no young child is) he will think he is bad and continue acting out with bad behavior.

Children also need a lot of praise. Praise him for his good behavior, even if it is the smallest thing. Do NOT compare him to his "good" twin. That is an assured way of creating a dicotomy between them. Do you like it when someone compares you to someone else? It is belittling and demeaning and frankly, edging on emotional abuse.

You might want to look into getting some professional help with someone who is a specialist in behavior of young children.

I believe that your son is just experiencing being his age. I have no idea where he could have heard that word from. I think you will just have to grin and bear. Try explaining to Oscar the meaning of those hateful words. maybe he will change his attitude once he knows what he's actually saying. I may not be a mother, but my cousins are usually pretty rotten at times. They don't know of what they are saying and when I explained it to them they neve said another word like that again. God Bless and Good Luck!!!!

I think if he said sucks he heard Simone say it. If he is an atheist when he grows up still love him and nourish him. Just make sure that you tell him to not say those words. Play with him a bit more and all instead of doing the god thing. Tell your pediatrician if your concerned about mental retardation.

Scary, isn't it. Yikes! Felix seems normal, but Oscar, I don't know. But, of course you love them both. And, get this...they can pull a switch on you at any time. Be prepared yourself for the change.

So you have one good twin, and one evil one. Ummm. Opposites. I don't think Oscar knows what he's saying or doing that is not quite right. Wait, give him a chance to grow out of it. During the age of reason, he will begin to behave himself. But for now, you may want to encourage him to say and do the right things. Treat him fairly, give him hugs, don't degrade him and he will be a joy, later.

I guess he must be mentally retarded.

If he were an Atheist, he would have eaten his brother, whilst saying God sucks, then his eyes would turn red as he dry humped your dog, and started foaming at the mouth.

As I have said before, the only cure for Atheism is to recite the 10 commandments in Aramaic, backwards, until he is filled with the love of god.

I cannot believe the stupid answers that you have received. I am sorry but the lack of compassion in this world is very disturbing. (2 Timothy 3:1-7)
since I have not personally witnessed your child going thru these tantrums, I do not know how bad it really is. You mentioned retardation. Please seak advice from a doctor who can tell you for sure. But if this not be the case, I want you to know that your baby is not an Athiest. Your baby is to young to make that desicion. And he is definitely not the anti christ as I read from some foolish people above. If any one is the Anti Christ it is those with their lack of compassion.
Please, pray to Jehovah. And do not stop. He will help you. He really will. Please do not give up. As I will also pray for you and your child. Please do not blame yourself. We all fall short.
(Romans 3:23-24).

I have two kids, a year apart. One's an atheist and one's an agnostic. One of yours is obviously an atheist, so how about we trade my agnostic for your atheist? Then everyone's happy. Your little guy would end up with a brother and a new mommy who also think God sucks. My agnostic is 14 and doesn't do anything but eat, sleep and u-know-what...not much different from a baby. You'll barely notice the difference, promise.

I'll have my people contact your people.

Is this a joke? I'd say yes but some of the people here, you never know...

Forget about God for a moment. You've got this baby in time-out every two seconds. Does he even know what time-out means? He certainly wouldn't know what 'God' means. Neither would the other one, kids that young wouldn't understand the concept.

You've got one kid is behaving very different from the other and also being treated very differently from the other. Sounds like a vicious circle to me.
