Streets are public places. At present the ban is on indoor public spaces, but there is consideration being given to banning smoking from ALL public places, and that would include the streets. The idea is that if you want to smoke, you can smoke in your own home so it won't affect anyone else.

Streets are public places. Where I live the smoking ban does not include open air public places though.

I think people will be allowed to smoke in the streets, but the litter police will be ready to pounce on any poor sod putting a ciggerette out on the pavement - they will have to carry small portable ashtrays, which I believe are now on sale.

you can still smoke in streets, but not work places, and not in childrens schools, but be sure to use ashtrays in street as the men in uniform will fine you if you are caught throwing your stub away in street,oh also you cant smoke in bus shelters that have a roof on it,hope this helps.

No, I was worried about this too. Its only enclosed public places which is why its ok still to smoke outside. You can't smoke in bus shelters though cos they are enclosed.

Enclosed public places means just that.
