This is not directed at any specific religion, however there seem to be many that list several things as sins, but for some reason "homosexuality" is usually specifically isolated as being some sort of mortal sin. I know that there are passages, within the christian spectrum, that alude to the act of sexual relationships between two men, however I find that even the most quoted and seemingly "obvious" ones (most in levit.) are fairly vague. It seems that, generally, people feel so strongly about them while disregarding less vague ones like cutting the hair on a mans temples and eating shellfish (also found in levit.)

There is a pervasive cultural influence called Patriarchy which dominates much of human philosophy. Patriarchy teaches that the Male Father is the premier symbol in human experience. It makes women the property of men. It allows for oppression of others so that men can accumulate wealth and influence. It accomodates slavery and exploitation of others to benefit the social roles of males. Jesus came to overthrow this model. When he said that we must "Hate" our family members in order to "Love" him he was using typical Jewish hyperbole to make the point that patriarchy in His own national culture was undermining the real identity of God. Human beings had re-created God in their own likeness.
When Jesus speaks of God as His Own Father he does so in ways that correct the image of God that was causing the problem. In the Ancient World soldiers would rape the defeated armies as a way of asserting their dominance and control over them. These men were now no better than women whom the men dominated. Even Scripture when telling the story of Sodom and Gommorah shows Lot offering his daughters to the crowds who were demanding that he bring forth his male visitors. If Lot knew that those outside his door were oriented to same sex relations whyt would he offer females. The crowds there were interested in gang raping the visitors who were under Lot's protection. It was a matter of violating the rules of hospitality practiced then not a matter of homosexual sex. Patriarchy is a False God that has yet to be removed from human culture. There have been some steps in this direction often under the power of the Gospel but the battle is not yet over. Women and Men are equal partners. Homosexuals often find sympathy with women who have been victims of patriarchy. Homosexuals challenge the roles which males are assigned by their cultures and thus are threats to those who benefit from patriarchy.

Everything has to fit in religion.
And this one doesn't
I have met Catholics that a devoted but unmarried and with children frowning at this one.
Sexuality is a primal force all religions have tried to suppress or control, one way or the other. Homosexuality isn't good for the socio economical structure of society. We have to be bound and reproducing. And once upon a time we also had children returning and taking care of us in old age. Making it a mortal sin would for sure control the masses. That is my best guess.
It is going to be nice the day we are allowed to be in relationship that fully support our preferences emotionally and sexually. Without fear of ridicule, harassment and assult

I examine via 40-one solutions. almost each and each of the existence like and considerate solutions are on web site 2. until eventually approximately 30 years in the past, homosexuality grow to be known to be a psychological ailment because of the fact it fairly is an attempt to mate (a inevitably heterosexual courting) with an analogous-intercourse companion. That makes approximately as a lot experience as eating a bowl of grass and watching for nourishment. In a triumph of politics over technological know-how, devoid of recent information, liberals bumped off homosexuality from the class of psychological subjects and adjusted it with non secular opposition to homosexuality. Orwell could be proud. There could be this way of factor as a individual who has a phobic reaction to homosexuals--breaking out in a chilly sweat, wracked with rigidity, quickly pulse, etc. If there have been any attempt to be making a scientific declare, we'd assume that form of reaction to even evaluate a analysis of phobia. The sexual liberals teach themselves anti-non secular bigots each and every time they use this way of term. CDF

Is it possible that people aren't as upset about the actual sin as they are about the attempts to change our society so that it embraces the sin?
Gays have successfully put their sexuality into public school classrooms to the point of having it celebrated on "rainbow days of silence".
Gays are pushing to change the definition of marriage despite the fact that it has had a definition for centuries and every state which has voted on it has supported the traditional definition of marriage.
Gays now want MORE protection under the law than other folks with hate crimes legislation (so much for equal protection).
Gays are for the most part impossible to fire at any major corporation. (just try it)
Gays are now pushing to have religious speech curtailed because it is not accepting of their sexuality.
They push too hard.
They bring the rage on themselves by doing so.

yes, lev.20:13 does say you are not to commit a homosexual act...
If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood [shall be] upon them.
it says it is an abomination.
that is where is gets serious. b/c rev. 2:8 states that whosoever commits abominations will be among those who have their part in the lake that burns with fire & brimstone. (hell) this is the 2nd death.
so ... you're not getting out of that.
here's the list of those who will accompany homosexuals ...
rev. 2:8 - But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
it even says ALL LIARS ... wow! that includes A WHOLE LOT of people.

I don't think people really think about the fact that the Bible may be the "word of God" but it was also written down by men. Men are flawed and I doubt any of them are above putting their own two cents in.

think of science in this question. Magnets. two positive sides of a magnet will repel just how a guy and a guy SHOULD repel. same thing with two negative sides of a magnet. Women should be with men and men should be with women. ( well that was redundant )
