Hi, I need some information about the lightbulb. Who invented it and when, how it works, what inventions prior to it made it possible, what inventions were made because of it, and are there any risks or drawbacks of it?
Links please
Thanks

Yeah, I do do my homework and I've never actually asked much before, I'm just not too sure where to start with this and I need help.

More specifically, it would be Thomas Alva Edison. One of the most obvious inventions that made it possible is the electric generator. Light bulbs have a thin wire in them called a filament.
Electricity heats the filament until it glows, producing light. What inventions were made because of it? Look around you. Better yet, wait until the sun sets and look around you.

The main risk I can think of is that the electricity used to power the light bulb is generated by burning fossil fuels which give off polution that causes global warming. So when your dad tells you to turn off the lights when you leave a room, listen to him!

Thomas Edison was the inventor of the light bulb.

A light bulb contains a piece of thin wire called a filament. When the switch is flipped, an electrical current runs through the wire. This current heats the wire, atoms in the wire gain energy and the electrons move into higher orbits around the nucleus of the atoms of the wire. When the electrons fall back into their original levels, the electrons give off light photons.

Photons are created when an electron loses energy, a small amount of light is emited, a photon.

An incandescent light bulb is an example of incandescence, light given off by materials brought to a very high temperature.

And a Floresent bulb is an example of luminescence, comes from atoms and molecules that have gained energy without much heating and that release this energy as light.

Edison DID NOT invent the lightbulb. He developed it into a marketable product. He found that removeing the air from the bulb allowed the filiment to glow longer and brighter.
What made it possible was the development of the electric generator.

Does anyone do their homework anymore? Just a shot in the dark, but try doing a search on Edison.
