I don't know, why do people believe in evolution any more than why do people believe in creation...No one living saw either one occur...yet many are divided over which is true...and both sides take it on faith that it happened...
People need to believe something...evolution negates the need to believe in god, creation affirms the need to believe in god...maybe your answer is in that statement...not everyone will believe in god so evolution is a way to refute that...not everyone will believe in creation either.
I think I need to rest my head...this helmet just got heavier...

Well besides genetics, the fossil record, biochemistry, molecular biology, carbon dating, micro-evolution, and the fact that a lot of people who are much smarter than I could ever hope to be believe in evolution, I don't know why I believe in evolution.

Sorry, but it is not a fact. That's why people should read!!! It is a knowledge and study and theory. Can anyone prove this theory? I really don't know. There are some claims that evolution is proven with evidences, but that is not enough. You can always dispute and argue about it. If it is proven, then you wouldn't be asking this question. Since there are many astonishing evidences, I wouldn't question anyone from believing it.

Evolution is an organism's development as a species by adaption or mutation to environmental factors. And you can see this in action through generations of species in closed environments such as some islands, or rapid genealogy of a life form, where you can see the adaptions take place.
Now the belief that we can from dirt.... I always felt more of a metaphor. God created us in 'his own image' always meant, to me, in his spiritual image- NOT his physical image because he doesn't have one (unless you count a burning bush...)
So its possible to believe in evolution and not feel threatened as a Christian.

Because not everyone is an uneducated yokel. Advancements in science have essentially disproved all the wacky ideas set forth with creationism. However, if you want to join the masses committed to those ideals, there are two brand new creationist museums, one in Kentucky, US and one in Alberta, Canada. These will help pander to those who consider themselves "Intellectuals" but still believe in the idea that we are all the offspring of Adam and Eve.

I don't "believe" it. I accept it based on the evidence I've been provided with and agree with it based on my own knowledge of science. Why don't you ask this question in the Biology forum if you are really seeking honest answers to this question? Would you ask a scientist a religious question?

Start reading on http://www.talkorigins.org
Basically there are five or six huge independent datasets that all tell essentially the same story, i.e. nuclear genetics, mitochondrial genetics (completely different), geology (plate tectonics), phylogeny (shape of animals), paleontology, and such. Also there are no competing theories.
(one should specify what sort of evolution one is talking about... do you mean cosmic evolution or the origin of species?)

Theory of Evolution is well established with unshakable evidences--Religion should not come in it's way at all.Schools refusing to teach this theory is unfortunate.

They don't. They just realise that this is the way the world is. Why do people believe the sky is blue? Same thing.

People accept (not believe, that requires faith) evolution because the evidence is there and because, if you understand it, it makes logical sense.
