I just got hired in a retail setting but the store I work in is always empty with no or little customers. On average maybe only 10 customers come in per day. i was hoping that my main job would be sales, but since there are barely any customers I am really dissapointed with the position and I'm always bored there. What is a nice way of telling my boss that I'm going to quit because of this reason?

just give your notice and then explain while you appreciate them giving you the chance to prove your sales skills you don't feel they are being utilitzed in the best way possible for your career and you would like to look elsewhere for something that does. makes sense to me and most employers are understanding this way.

You really don't need to give a reason. Just say that it wasn't the opportunity that you were hoping for and leave it at that.
