This person does similar things that I do and seems to have a lot of competitive advantages over me: better knowledge, more spare time (no family). Recently my manager offered me a possibility to grow, but now I feel that this person could be better at all the things that I am doing.

Please, no! This happened to me recently. It's perfectly natural for you to feel threatened and to believe that this persons star shines brighter than yours.

Your manager obviously values you for yourself and the strengths they see in you. Trust their judgement and accept this opportunity for you to shine too.

So what? Why are you so worried? Stop competing with THEM and compete with YOURSELF!

Set your own standards a wee bit higher than what the objectives are for you. For instance if s/he wants 75 calls per day, then you force yourself to do 80; if s/he wants 12 reports done, then you do 14; if s/he wants $600.00 sold, then you do $750.00.

Set your own goals and then break them. By doing so you are making yourself far more valuable than just knowing lots of information! Remember: half of all knowledge is knowing where to find the other half!

Stop worrying about what other's do or don't do but worry about what YOU do and CAN do!

Try to think back to the beginning. What did you do to make an impression. Do the best, there is always a newness. I am sure this person has flaws, and you will be back in the spotlight again.
