probably, most general dentists aren't comfortable with doing extractions that can be complicated. With wisdom teeth, it isn't just a matter of yanking it out, there are nerves and blood supply that can be very complicated to consider.

Yes, because it can get infected. You probably need to be on antibiotics. I had to have my tooth pulled, but it took oral surgery and the gum had to be cut to get the tooth out. I don't want to scare you, but that's what they might need to do, they sedate you well, so I didn't feel a thing.... Good Luck.
