I have four parakeets and one hamster. I've been getting bug bites all over me, and I looked online and my bites look just like flea bites http://www.lifespan.org/adam/graphics/im... Also, none of my family members have been getting these bug bites, and I have four cats, with flea and tick products applied to them already. I just today sprayed flea stuff on my hamsters, but I want to know.....
1. Is there a way to tell if I have fleas in my room.
2.Can mites from parakeets give me thoes bites?
3. Can that bite be from another insect? If so pics would be helpful.

Fleas can be carried on anything.

To test to see if you have fleas in a room, place a small lamp on the middle of the room, (ones with the adjustable necks are best), and place it so that it shines onto a bowl of soapy water. Shut the lights off except for the lamp and leave it there overnight, make sure that non of your pets have access to that room at night. The number of fleas you see tells you the seriousness of a flea problem. If there's a lot of fleas, you will want to flea bomb or thoroughly vacuum the room with some flea powder inside the vaccum bag. Make sure you replace the bag frequently or the suction on the vacuum won't be at its peak.

As far as getting bites from mites from a parakeet, it's not possible, as mites don't travel from birds to humans. Mites usually prefer certain types of animals as their bodies are adapted for the host.

However, you could have some sort of an allergic reaction that may appear to make you appear to have flea or mite bites. The best thing to do is to be away from your pets and see if the itching does go down, if not, then it's most likely fleas.

Another way without having to wait to see if any of your rooms have fleas is done simply by taking a ballon and fill it with hot water then wrap any kind of tape sticky side out around it and drag it around your house with a string . Fleas are attracted to heat and they will stick to the tape . You could also use the on your yard . If you had a bad flea infestation you would see them as little black dots on your socks clothing and furniture as well your pets . Most likely i am guessing its someplace outside your walking and some other kind of bug bites . Avoid those areas your going or use some kind of bug sprays heavily on your lower body when going outside .

If you have fleas, you will know, you have to see the fleas, if you do not see them, is probably something else, I know, I have 8 cats, and they are inside cats, they have a kitty run, so they can go outside.

You can bring in fleas form outside just like a dog or a cat can. They can ride in on your shoes and socks!! Have your yard sprayed!
