Most of the neurobiological evidence currently classifies schizophrenia as an organic brain disease, so to say that religion causes it would be like saying religion causes Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's. Although no clear organic cause has been identified.
That is not to say that some of the delusions and hallucinations that are caused by schizophrenia are not religious or spiritual in nature. Sometimes these spiritual "visions" may result in a furthering in religious beliefs in which case it may be said that schizophrenia can cause religion.

Schizophrenia is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, caused by genetics. Religion has been blamed for a lot of things, but this is the first time I've heard this one. Schizophrenia is a mental illness, it is inherited, and it can be helped by medicines. They have a lot of medicines now that they never had before. And people are being successfully treated with meds. But no, religion does not cause schizophrenia.

It's possible. Some cults, such as christianity, often have members who exhibit all the signs of schizophrenia because of their belief.
Whether their religion is at the base of their disease is debatable.

particularly confident. And Hipster, the Inquisition believed in faith, so did the WW2 eastern, so (in concept) does the KKK, so do Islamic Jihadists, so did the Conquistadores, so did... yet you get the assumption. you surely do no longer could be strongly non secular to be a homicidal lunatic, in spite of if it does look to help.

No, can't say that it does. Although there is a religious component to *some* schizophrenics' behavior, that doesn't mean that all religious people are mentally ill.
