Hi,
The legal age for anyone in most states is 13..It is the age you can be left alone yourself..12 is still to young.. sorry Hun wait until next year.As well as you have to know what to do in an emergency situation.

No, 12 isn't too young to babysit if your are responsible. It does however depend on the age of the children you are caring for and how long you will be left alone with the children and how far away the parents are going. At 12 I would say you could be resonsible for babysitting any child over 6 years old for a few hours if the parents are going to be a short ways away. Maybe start with something with an older child for a short time and see if you feel comfortable with it and then you can prove to your parents or whoever that you can be responsible and be trusted. I used to babysit for a neighbor's children ages 6, 7, & 9 when I was 13 when they would go out for dinner on Saturday nights. So if you feel maybe you aren't ready you can always wait until you are a little older.

I was 11 when we adopted my younger brother and from that day on he was my baby. I looked after him everyday until I left home at age 19 to go to University. I also babysat for my sister's 2 kids at the same time so I had 3 kids to look after by the time I was 12. If you are mature enough you should be able to handle it and all the problems. Just make sure you have the CPR certificate and a list of emergency numbers on hand. Also be aware of the kids at all times, busy kids are kids not getting into trouble. Color with them, read to them and take walks. Don't just say yeah I'll watch them and spend all day at the tv or computer. I used to make the kids dry the dishes as I washed them and then gave the kids ice cream after. It kept them busy and in an area where I could get to know them better just by talking to them. A kid that likes his or her sitter is more likely to listen to the sitter when asked to. Good Luck!

I think a 12 yr old can take care of a kid who is 8 yrs old and older. If you are mature and responsible, then it's fine. I know in some middle schools they have a babysitting club where they teach you what to do and then at the end of the 4 lessons they give you a certificate so you can do this job with out any one saying no.

Yes, I think you are old enough. You sound mature. I started babysitting when I was young too. Kids are fun. Just make sure you look out for things that could be hazards. Knives laying around, things like that. If they are small, you have to watch them putting things in their mouths. Get some books and learn more about kids. Ask questions. I used to babysit right down the road from my home, so I had someone that could help me if I needed it.

I would never leave my children in the hands of a 12 year old babysitter. Many kids that are 12 years old are often the ones being watched while the parents are out in the first place.

If you don't think you are old enough, you probably aren't.
I was the oldest of seven kids. I did it...but its a huge responsibility!
If you do decide to babysit, I think there are classes you can take. Check with local 4H clubs, or girl scouts, etc.

if you are responsible, and can do the task like any other person older than you, than you are fit for the job. I started baby sitting when i was 11 - mature for my age. I took a baby sitting class from blue cross blue shield.
