Considering overpopulation in some areas, shortages of resources, all of the orphans who need homes, etc.

Shouldn't you adopt or have no children at all?

I know all about 'be fruitful and multiply,' but those were different times and I doubt our world today was being considered.

It seems a little selfish to me to have children when there are so many out there already. The child doesn't care because it isn't born yet, so it's really about you and your desires, even if it's the idea of bring another being into existence.

Just curious about how you think about this matter...

Heather to You: Well, it's undeniable that there are many such children out there, inside or outside of the United States. Unfortunately, some businesses and organizations care more about the money than the child or family...

My old piano teacher adopted two children from Africa, but the first time (possibly two times), she sent the money but got nothing back. Crazy, yes...

ignoramus: That WOULD be a good point, except I also offered that they do not have a child at all. Including not adopting. I realize that we cannot always be doing good, but contributing to a problem is contributing to a problem.

answer man: You are assuming I'm making a lot of assumptions. I'm not. I never brought up abortion, never said if I agree with it... I never brought up people going around having sex and spewing out babies everywhere... wow. Good job on talking about nothing...

How many I've adopted is irrelevant. First of all, I'm not even old enough to be having a kid. Secondly, what I do and what you do do not have to match up for what I'm saying to be right. And lastly, an ADOPTED kid could be the one who cures cancer, too, if raised in a good environment. No different from a child over here. I'm not sure why you're going on about Christian haters...

loveChrist: Believe it or not, people can have fulfilling lives without children.

ignoramus: By the way, since when do humans only do what is natural, and how do you even define natural anyway? We do what we decide to do. You might say that killing a person you don't like is natural if you think you can get away with it, but obviously not everyone would do that. Some people don't even have children, so I don't like to hear people talking about doing what is natural...

Furthermore, ignoramus, I was addressing people who, by their own beliefs, should want people to stop suffering, should love others, etc. And Christians certainly do not do what you would obviously define as natural...

Heather - that's likely due to the fact that so many of the unwanted kids are either not white, or have special needs.

I totally agree with this idea, and always ask this of the people who I see picketing Planned Parenthood. I love to watch them mumble incoherently about why they themselves have never adopted.

You really should do some research before asking a question like this. Yes, some parts of the world have numerous orphans. We are adopting one from Africa, because he will starve and or die if we don't. Other parts of the world have such a low birth rate that their governments are actually paying a bonus to families to have kids. Many countries in Europe are like this. Many blame this on the fact that many there are faithless and are so self centered (hedonists) they don't want to ruin their fun and have kids (talk about selfish). In America, we certainly don't have an overpopulation problem. The next child born might be the one to cure cancer or develop important vaccines or develop better food production. (Any one of the aborted kids might have done the same). So, you are confused or mistaken to call people having kids, selfish. Isn't it the selfish ones who have to go out and copulate for their own pleasure and then kill the unborn kid because the kid will put a crimp on their fun? So, to conclude, We have our own kids, are adopting another, plan to adopt more (how many have you adopted?) and raise them to be decent people.
Oh, and by the way, I believe abortion is murder and I adopt orphans. I know some Christian haters don't want to hear about people like us, but we exist.

I'm a Christian, and I do not have or want children. I will never have children, and there are many reasons for this. If I ever did decide to do the parenthood thing, which is extremely unlikely, I'd adopt an older child who's already here and needs help. People tend to overlook older children who need adoption.

There is nothing selfish about wanting to have a child. It's not selfish, it natural. One could also say that the world is in such a chaos that it is selfish to even get married. One could say that it is selfish to spend time on Yahoo Answers when there are so many places where you could be volunteering.

Ofcourse it is good to adopt, but don't knock the people who want to have their own children as well.

I have been thinking a very similar idea. I have not considered having children because of the state of the world that we live in. The world and this country (USA) is going through much turmoil and things are NOT getting better.

GOD bless

I have one son and it's tough raising kids in this time in the world. There are so many bad influences and rebellious conduct by mostly adults in this world today; it's a sad shame that adults are committing most of the immorality and teaching it off to the kids.

If I had to do all over again, I would not have had a kid. I love my son dearly but sometimes you wonder is he really listening to me? I will not be having any more children in this system of things we live in. I will wait until after Armageddon to see what Jehovah God has in store for us then. I hope I make it thru, or am resurrected after Armageddon.

Great question, but I don't recommend having children in this dirty system of things we live in.

good point but i have a question

if there are so many orphans out there than why is it that couples have to go on a "waiting list" and not just for newborns but for all ages...

Christians do not believe in holding control or responsibility for their own bodies. Therefore, your question is not relevant.

i am sorry about the children of the world but i think it is sad when people decide not to have their own children, they have no idea what they are missing in life//your own children are a part of you and always will be
