Hi, This morning I was in lots of pain (I have a slipped disc) and had run out of Tramadol, so took 2 Solpodol tablets with my anti-inflammatory pill. Ive neevr taken Solpodol before, but have taken co-proximal and co-codemal.

Almost straight away I had a severe stomach ache, and my hands began to burn and itch. Then my feet. It spread to my torso, legs and face within a few minutes, I felt as if Id fallen into a load of stinging nettles, it was very hot and itchy. Then I had trouble breathing, found it hard to swallow, and was sick.

I felt really unwell, it scared me a lot. Tonight I still dont feel right, kind of drained and weak, my skin is tender but not red and swollen any longer, and Im exhausted.

Was this because of the Solpodol? Could it have been the Diclofenic? (Im assuming it WAS a reaction to the tablets, I cant think what else it could be?) Has anyone else had this with these tablets?

The stomach ache and nausea could be down to the diclofenac. They affect me that badly that It's down on my medical records that under no circumstances should I be given them.

My partner has a paracetamol allergy and the symptoms you described with the itching etc is what happens to him.

Solpadol contain the same ingredients as co-proxamol and Co-Codamol (Both contain codeine). As you've taken them all before it's strange this is happening.Take an antihistamine to stop the itches just incase it is an allergy and give NHS Direct a ring 0845 4647 x

Impossible to say for sure without you taking them again and monitoring for same reaction. Would not advise you to do that at moment.

Was the solpadol normal tabs or soluble tabs?
How soon is almost straight away?

Anaphylactic type reactions are very fast, but this is not what you describe. The solpadol (normal tabs) would take at least 20 mins to dissolve, pass in to the s intestine and be absorbed into system circulation. If your reaction was faster than this, then it is very, very, very unlikely to be due to the solpadol. The fact that you have previously has no issues taking co-codamol (with the same active ingredients as solpadol) makes this reaction more unlikely still. A super fast non-anaphylactic reaction to tablet excipients simply does not happen.

Diclofenac, however is a much more likely candidate. Again we would need to know how long you have been taking them and when was the first dose in relation to the symptoms? Adverse effects and hypersensitivity reaction that cover everything you have described have been reported for this drug.

Of course could be coincidence and not related to the meds. at all?

Obviously do not take any med you suspect of triggering this reaction and do inform GP and pharmacist.

hi i really do feel for you!! i recently only found out i cannot take anything with i think codiene as i have very itchy and sore hands and get covered in a very sore itchy red blotches some very large!! as i have had diclofenac in the past and been ok but now cant take anti-inflamatories due to gall stones but have been on co-codamol and also recently been given codiene phosphate and also tried tramadol and all these seem to bring on the rash & itching till it bleeds (mostly all over arms and legsand tummy area )and it always flares up more in the morning and evening but seems to settle a little during the daytime??i have noticed when i dont have them the rash goes down!!! but have decided with the tramadol that compared to the pain of an episode of gallstone flare-up than i better put up with the rash and now inform any doctor/hospital admission that i will not take anything with codiene in (as gallstones are very painful tramadol i will use until my operation rash or not) so i would suggest you make an appointment with G.P. and inform them of all you have written and make them aware of this
good luck and hope you are feeling better soon!!

Don't take either of your meds!

You have suffered a severe allergic reaction.

Contact your doctor as soon as possible and explain what has happened.

If you have any further problems contact your local hospital.

Please do not take any more meds of any sort until you have been in touch with your doctor.

Best wishes
A.D.

It sounds as if you're allergic to an ingredient in Solpodol,it contains Codeine...Diclofenac can cause stomach problems,it should be taken with,or after food.( my mother works in a Pharmacy,so I asked her)
