claimed that god gave me a bunch of golden plates in an ancient american language, then translated them (again claiming that i'd done it all COMPLETELY correctly), then started a church based on these plates, (oh, did i mention, were taken back by an angel so no one can see them now). If i did all that, would you not only join my church, but
1)pay 10% of all your income
2)Have multiple wives, or be one of many multiple wives
3)wear magic underwear
4)perform masonic temple rituals, etc.
Would you do all that?

Um, I see you're referring to the Mormon church, but where does the 'magic underwear' come into this?

Well, since YOU didn't do it, probably not.
Is tithing your biggest gripe? It's obvious that you haven't been paying attention but "Old Man Hinkley" and "all his dogs", as you so eloquently express, were all very educated and financially successful. Each of them would have been able to produce a very impressive curriculum vitae. Faust was a lawyer. Hinckley was in PR. Ballard and Oakes were physicians. Look it up if you don't believe me. They do not personally benefit from tithes and offerings. Go call the Church Audit committee too. I am sure that they would be willing to discuss with you where all your tithes actually go, and provide the paperwork to prove it.
The "magic underwear" isn't magic. It has no magical properties. It's longer and whiter, yes. Magical, no. Mostly its purpose is to not be skanky clubbin slut-wear.
The "multiple wives thing"...in case you haven't checked recently, the LDS church doesn't do that anymore, and it was not a Church-wide practise. Didn't your parents send you to seminary?
The Masonic temple rituals...can you describe in detail what the Masons do in their rituals for those of us who have never been to a Masonic temple? I'd be interested in knowing and comparing them to the LDS temple. Do you even know WHO the Masons are, and their history? Do you know why they are an important part of history? Didn't think so.
For a kid who grew up in an LDS family, you are starting to sound like an ignorant anti. What is your REAL reason for leaving the Church?

If you were to fully understand why people would do all of this, then perhaps you will be able to understand as the Savior said when a man found a pearl of great price, he went and sold all he had so that he could have a part of it.
When you too find the secret of why people would do this, perhaps you as well will come to understand that God himself is wanting us to be happy, receive eternal life and exaltation and receive of his fullness through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

I already pay a percentage of my income to the government, a group of people who claim they get their authority straight from God, and they make me carry around an ID card and force me to stand in lines for long periods of time.... how's that any different from your religion?

Well, I'm very tempted at joining because of 3); however, I think I'll skip joining your church for now, unless you also throw in a free toaster.

Geez, give it a rest. What do you care?
Oh, and about the only thing you got right in your little list is the 10% of income. Which is not a requirement!
Do you get tired of bashing other people's religion?

I escaped damn it why do you keep bringing up the past? On a serious note, no, that sounds a bit schizo. But it got some of my ancestors to the new world so I have to give them credit.

Really, it depends on what you look like.
If Beyonce started a religion and preached every Sunday, I'd never miss church.

I would test your religion. If it did nothing to improve my life, my mind, body, and soul then I would throw it in the garbage. I have tried, tested and found Christianity to be true for my life. If you found it not so for your life then why bother me about your unbelief. You guys always say you hate to be preached to. How about not preaching atheism yourselves.
