weight gain is a typical side effect of smoking cessation, this is because of the oral fixation. You can avoid weight gain by increasing your awareness of what you eat and when while you are in the process of quitting. I used alot of sugarless gums and candies when I quit, three years ago and did not gain an ounce.

Sometimes.
Smoking tends to blunt the taste buds and suppress the appetite, so you aren't all that hungry in general and when you do eat, it doesn't taste very good.
But the negligible weight gain you MIGHT get from quitting is absolutely preferable to the risks of continuing smoking.
Quit now. You can always exercise and lose some weight if you're not dead from smoking. Besides, you'll feel more like exercising once you quit punishing your lungs with cigarette tar and taxing your heart. But even if you don't lose the weight, you'll still be better off if you quit smoking.

Is it not far better to quit this deadly habit and gain a few lbs rather than be another cancer statistic ?
Remember smoking kills, I have witness a neighbour suffer for 10 years going back and forth to hospital having chemotherapy for cancer which spread from his throat to his chest and lungs. It was so sad to see this man suffer this way. He had smoked all of his life, since his teens.
It might be hard to quit, but think about your health. Life is to precious to take that risk. Try to quit asap.

I ALWAYS lose weight when I quit smoking. I am anxious and do not have smokes to calm me down, so I am constantly moving around, walking, pacing, doing stuff to keep myself occupied. Every time you want a smoke, chug a glass of water. It kills the craving and also healthy! Good luck!

yes you will gain some weight. the reason being smoking thins your blood and your heart pumps faster which speeds up your metabolism which burns more calories. also when you smoke you don't eat as much or as often. so when you stop ou will gain weight but just give your body some time to get used to not smoking and your metabolism time to regulate itself again

Some people do.... Its because nicotine reduces estrogen so you retain less water and also it reduces appetite. So when you stop smoking and your not getting the nicotine, you retain more water and you have more of an appetite.

If you like food a lot, you will probably gain a lot of weight. If you don't like eating, you probably won't gain much.
That sounds really simple, but it's true
