H.L. Mencken: "Men become civilized not in proportion to their willingness to believe, but in proportion to their readiness to doubt."

nuPhyllis!, could this be true, what you said? I made a horrible err, for obviously I was thinking that I was giving atheists one in the neck. Gee, did I ever make a mistake. Thanks for pointing it out. I'll be more careful with my next post, a quote from Voltaire.

It's scary when atheists miss an irony alert.

I'm beginning to think that spending too much time in R&S may be detrimental to cognition.

No, it doesn't make me quake in horror. What makes me quake in horror is people's willingness to believe rather than think for themselves.

No 136 bytes worth of 8-bit characters isn't very scary.

Yes that is very true. For the bible warns us and tells us repeatedly, that Jesus himself said that he will be hated, and for no reason at all. And all those who follow Jesus and preach the true gospel of god, will be hated also in this world.

sinners and unbelievers, it is time to truly look inside yourself and ask, "why do I hate the true word of god so much? Is it because it does not fit with my preconceptions and predispositions of my life and my world? do I want to continue in my sin so much that I am willing to forsake the truth of the universe from the creator of all things?"

no, it doesn't make reasonable people fear anything. in fact, those words are pro-atheist. couldn't you comprehend that?

Mencken also thought that the bible and organized cults were nonsense.

Why should atheists be other than highly approving of these words?
