There is no limit for travel to Turkey and it is a much better rate if you exchange at a bank not a currency exchange office. If you use your card in ATM you will be charged onb your return. You can usually use Pounds,Euros or US Dollars in most places as well as Turkish Lira.

If you want to be robbed, take all money you need for the holiday.
If you want to be practical, take your bank card.
(Either debit or credit, by preference both.)
In Turkey are money machines too. Holes in the wall or ATM's.
That way you get more money for your pounds than when you take it in banknotes and exchange it, specially in the smaller town.

If you do not trust that system, change part of your money before you travel into the local currency and make sure you have you apartment or hotel paid by arranging it true a travel agent.

You should be able to take more money out of the country than you would ever use in one holiday, unless you are paying for a big group, like a football team.

Well if you are taking sterling to exchange to turkish currency, then why don't you take travellers cheques with you instead. That a more secure way.
