that they intend to marry someone who is becoming one. she also states his Grandfather was one. What can you tell us about it?

My husband is a Mason. It's a wonderful organization for men. They're good upstanding citizens who encourage the best in each other, they're always there for each other. They do a lot for each other, and for the community at large.

Oh, btw, you do not have to have family that was a Freemason to join-- my husband had no Masons in the family. A friend he met at work was a Mason and my husband was interested in joining after hearing about it, and he did.

My grandfather is a free mason. My grandmother is an eastern star. Their kind of secretive about it. All I know is that they are very old secret societies and the free masons go all the way back to the knights templar and you cannot be one unless you have family who has been or is one. They came from the early Christians.

My brother is a Grand Poobah, or whatever they call it, in this organization, my father-in-law belonged, and evidently they do a great deal of good in the world, helping children in charitable causes, maintaining nursing homes and retirement homes, etc. It also maintains cheap bars and dancehalls (meeting places) for common everyday fun.

They are Christians, even though there are some ancient rites connected with the swearing-in ceremonies...marching naked in a circle, vowing loyalty, etc. Keeps women from sneaking in, I guess.

They help each other in a business sense, aiming business contracts toward each other, networking. And they help each other in other ways.

I don't think they were all that great in the beginning. The Knights Templar were not the most moral group around, and trying to read and understand Umberto Eco's books and Dan Brown's books clarify it a little, but not a lot, because they are fiction.

I have always thought of it as "Boys just wanna have fun." It's harmless, as far as I know, and provides some social programs with funding. That's okay with me.

The free masons are nothing more than a religious based organization. They are however very private and exclusive. You have to request a free mason to sponser you to join. They will not ask you to. There are many degrees of masons. Many politicians and business leaders are masons or have been masons. There is a benefit to becoming one in that they do help each other as a brotherhood and that in itself is why many leaders belong to the organization. Depending on where the group that you are speaking of is located, many of the groups are active and many are not.

I am a Mason and I see nothing wrong with it. I am an upstanding Christian man who is on a path just like everyone else....to return to my Father above. We are NOT a secret organization or society, but a group of men - a brotherhood - who all strive to better ourselves by using ancient teachings of great men. There are no secrets in Masonry but hand shakes and passwords, and even they are not secrets anymore...it is all on the history channel and biography channel as well.

the free masons is a well hidden all american secret. it's to believed that they built the american way of life. they were apart of the underground railroad and helped some of the slaves to slavery, built and designed some our most historic towns and fought in our biggest wars.
