Greetings. I was in the same boat for awhile. Based on what you said you are not Catholic and can not receive the sacraments yet. However, your desire is a huge step towards the Church. You will need to talk to a priest and he will help you in your journey. You will need to attend some RCIA sessions, get baptized and confirmed. The process can be brief or long depending on your choices, belief, and desire. The Catholic Church will teach you what it believes first, it wants you to have all the information before you make the final choice to be baptized and confirmed.

May our Lord lead you to where you need to be. Peace be with you.

To profess belief in Catholicism is to declare one's will to live the Catholic life.

We can claim anything we want. It means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING unless we live what we profess to believe. If you truly want to be Catholic, you must receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Communion, and Confirmation.

With all due respect to your parents, they've have failed you in their responsibility to bring you up in the Catholic Faith. I am glad to see that, in spite of this, you are taking an active interest in the Church.

Assuming you read this in time, go to mass Sunday (tomorrow). If you miss it, go next Sunday. Afterwards, talk to the priest. Tell him you want to join the Church and that you require Baptism, among other Sacraments. NOTE: If you do go to mass, you must not receive Communion until after you've been Baptized.

Good luck.

Perhaps your becoming an active Catholic will eventually bring your parents into active Catholicism as well.

I may be wrong but baptism, communion are essential catholic beliefs and without these you can not be confirmed. At least this is how I understand it. So technically you are not recognized as a true catholic. I am baptist so I may not be stating the total truth and just what I have been told.

Yes, you need to enroll in RCIA.Call a local parish and see the priest so that you can be baptized, confirmed and communed at Easter Vigil. Find out about the beliefs of Catholics by getting a Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Sorry, but you need to be baptized to be Catholic so I would say no you are not Catholic. If this is something you don't believe in then you would not believe the same as a Catholic. But we welcome you to become baptized and to be in full Communion with us so please go to the Parish in your neighborhood and find out how to start the classes.
