This is not meant to insult or offend any Christians but frankly your views and beliefs are no longer mine, if i'm being totally honest, some of the opinions you express scare me...i'm not saying you've driven me to Atheism but you made my decision a whole lot easier.

I know that it's not about acceptance, just my way of saying that i've finally seen sense.

In all seriousness though, YA had no influence on my decision whatsoever!!! I've been 90% sure of this for a long time, now i'm 100% sure.

They're right, you don't need acceptance to be an atheist; everyone is born atheist until they're ready for the brainwashing. There are atheist fundamentalists of course, you might be accepted into them... otherwise, you've just successfully left the "Religious Matrix", DOM DOM DOOOOOMMMM!!! LOL!!! If you'd like to do an initiation ritual or something to make it look like a big thing though, try hitting a priest over the head with a bible and then tell him he's a foolchild. It's funny!

I was an atheist but then got to thinking about why we are here, and turned to a religion which isn't a religion if that makes sense. I am a reincarnationist, go for your dreams. It doesn't matter what you believe, there isn't a hell in my beliefs, but there is a personal hell that you do make for yourself. Anyway back to the question, it doesn't matter whether or not people accept you. Yes every religion has there flaws, but you don't have to be like everyone else. You don't have to do this, but it sounds like you just need a different religion. Try researching Reincarnation, Buddhism, Paganism, Wiccan, Catholicism, Mormon, etc. If you want to explore atheism go to http://www.atheists.org/ Good luck! Namaste.

The great thing about Atheism is that we don't have a board of directors or CEO. I, myself, came from a Christian background, and didn't have to meet with anyone's approval to become an Atheist. Your beliefs define you, not some pretentious man in a glorified bathrobe.
I would have even accepted you as a Christian. All I would have asked is that you accept me as an Atheist.

Not an Atheist myself, but good luck on your new path.
I remember when I finally had that "breakthrough" from trying to reconcile what I was told to believe with what things really seemed like to "Wow! Finally something that is starting to make sense!" It's a great feeling.

Wow somebody who has actually used this site to influence their decisions. I'm not an Atheist or a Christian but I feel that you're being a little too harsh and quick to make a decision based on this section. I have met some really nice Christians on yahoo Answers who are Liberal in their views as well. Maybe Fundamental Christianity isn't your thing. Maybe Liberal Christianity is your thing. All I'm saying is for you to make the decision that's right for you based on what's in your heart and mind and not because of this forum.

Welcome to self empowerment and self determination. Just because Christianity and religion is not for you, you still can hold your own beliefs in a higher power or not it's up to you. You choose.

Atheism isn't an organized religion (far from it) or group, it's your personal beliefs, etc etc. You don't have to ask us to accept you, like you would with an indoctrinated religion. Believe what you want to believe.

Just kidding, sweetie. Yes, of course. Welcome to the world of rational thought, the only moral choice. Not having ever formed the habit, you may find it difficult at first, but it'll get easier.

Not really sure what sort of acceptance you're looking for. There's really no organization to join or dues to pay. If you're cute, there is an initiation ceremony I sometimes perform in my apartment, though.
