okay yesterday my bf came and picked me up at work he is a truck driver so he brought his big truck. i was getting in to the truck my door wasn't locked so grabbed it and slammed it shut not realizing that my thumb had been smashed too. i opened the door again and took my thumb out wow was it ever so painful so i went to the hospital and the doctor looked at it and gave me a spline and rapped it up in a banded my question here is something seems off. like the doc didn't really look at it and i am worried about it. will it get better or not? its broken and its swollen and i cant feel it its my first bone i broke so i am new at this anyone else broke their thumb? if so how did it get better?

if you keep it in the splint you will be fine .. the doctor is probably very experienced so he knew what to do and how to do it quickly thats why it feels like he didnt really look at it .. give it a few days for the swelling to go down and then it will be very black and blue but after that it will heal .. when it changes colors that means it is healing so dont worry about it .. youll be fine

If he did not xray the thumb, nobody knows if it is broken or not. Also, if he did not do xrays I would call the ER department head and lodge a complaint against that doctor, it is sheer negligence on his part. Splinting and wrapping it is par for the course, but if the bone was displaced and he did nothing to straighten it, then it will take twice as long to heal and it will heal crookedly, possibly impairing your use of the thumb in future. I would go to another clinic or ER and have it looked at again, if there were no xrays taken.

I would think if it gets worse the same doctor that looked at it before would look at it again. Doctors usually do "follow-ups" on their patients.

They hurt, don't they????

Beyond that, a a splint is standard treatment. That and time.
Don't expect much improvement for a few days, but eventually, just a few weeks, you'll not even remember you broke it.
