She hasnt really eaten anything in last 3 days got her to eat a lil bit of jerky last night which she gobbled down like she was starving ,Today you can tell she wants it but wont eat it.She is still drinking water tho.Except for the actually bringing something up she has all symptoms of a cat that has a severe hairball in its intestinal tract. Took her to vet and all they want is for you to spend hundreds of dollars for a bunch of tests not even relating to the possibility of a hairball.Any help would be greatly appreciated cause I am not sure how much longer she will last if I cant do something to help her.

you should get her to the vet or make her drink TONS of water. YOU NEED to go to the VET my friends cat DIED from a hairball in her stomach that had been building up for a long period of time and the otopsy showed that there was a HUGE hairball and that was why she died so GO TO THE VET.

-good luck!

??? This does not sound like a hairball!

The reason the vets want to do blood test 'not relating to a hairball' is that they don't think it's a hairball!! Drop the hairball idea, this dog sounds pretty sick.

Not eating much in three days is not good, and coupled with not being able to poo - your dog NEEDS treatment. Please go back to the vets and explain money is a problem - they can at least give the dog supportive treatment even if you're not going to find out exactly what the problem is.

I think you need to consider that perhaps, just perhaps, vets know better than you do! Just get the dog some help or you won't be spending hundreds to get her better, you'll be spending thousands - or having her put to sleep.

I am sorry to say this so bluntly but, You are abusing your dog. You are doing your dog the most damage by not letting the vet do the tests. You are basically killing your dog yourself. If money issues are the reason you can't have the vet run test, then talk to the vet. Most vets will put you on a payment plan. Dogs systems are very different from cats and to tell yourself you "know" your dogs anatomy better than your vets' that is just being stupid on your part. Vets go through 16 or more years of college. Get your dog to an emergency animal hospital NOW. Explain to them that she hasn't ate anything in days and she is not eliminating. Tell them everything you just told us. There is something severally wrong with her. If you keep thinking it is a hairball, your dogs intestines will burst and kill her.

She might have something in her intestinal tract, but it's probably not a hairball. Cats get hairballs because they lick themselves clean. Dogs don't do that as much. If she hasn't eaten in 3 days, that's really bad. If you feel like your vet is taking advantage of you, take her to another vet and ask them to X-ray her. If she swallowed something, you might have to pay to remove it. There's nothing you can do to remove whatever it is- you need a vet's help. Go to one and explain you can't pay all the bill up front, but that your dog needs emergency care. I'm sure they can work something out with you.

How did you arrive at the conclusion that it's a hairball?? I've never yet had a dog who had a hairball which is why I suspect that the vet wants to do other tests. If she isn't eating and seems uncomfortable, please let the vet do what's necessary before it's too late.

Sounds to me like an intestinal blockage but I can't see how it could be a hairball. More likely, it would be a foreign object. Take her to the vets ASAP. I have been through this surgery with one of my dogs. They can actually die or be left with serious internal complications for life if you leave a blockage untreated for too long...

Good luck, and PLEASE get her to vets!

Dogs don't get hairballs........ Just tell the vet you need an x-ray to determine whether she has a blockage. If there is, it will show up. And can be diagonsed or ruled out as her problem.

Follow the advice of the vet. They are the experts, you cannot treat her yourself. When you took on the animal you took on the responsibility to provide the highest level of care possible to her and you need to get her treated.
