Are they DECENT hand-me-downs, or are they filled with holes, and given to you dirty? Truthfully, I've had my share of hand-me-downs, and most of my friends (and acquaintances) know that I don't mind taking anything off their hands that they can no longer use. I do this for two reasons: (1) I'm frugal. If I can save a buck while dressing decently or using someone else's household items, I'll do it. I don't have a lot of money to spare and this helps me in the long run; (2) I donate a lot of things (clothing and household items) to other people I know who are less fortunate, or to a local charity.

No one loses out when good stuff is passed on.

I have to say, though, that I will speak up and let my peeps know if I really can't use something, because I don't want to take on anything add'l that's simply going to use up space -- and again, someone else could use it.

Try telling "whoever" that you appreciate the gesture, but you'd really prefer that they find someone who could really use the clothes. Apparently you're not into hand-me-downs, or already have enough. Either way, it's usually an act of consideration for someone to think enough of you to give you their things.

I have a cousin who used to do this. She is 11 years older than I am. At the time she gave me clothes, she was a size 12. I was a size 0-2 (the same as I am now). Then she would act surprised when I tried them on for her and they were WAY too big. I thanked her anyway and gave them away to Goodwill.

hand me down clothes are the best because you dont have to spend your own money buying clothes, so tell them thank you so very much and hope they keep giving you free stuff

thank you , but youve already collected enough!

my mom tries to pass down clothes to me, that ,quite honestly, would never fit and arent my style. i just tell her shes already passed down enough stuff and that someone else could use it instead.....its a constant on going thing,,,,but might as well tell them you dont need it as opposed to collecting piles of clothes you dont like/or will never wear. let it be put to good use elsewhere

Say thank you snd then donate them to charity if you don't like them. This way you don't hurt anyone's feelings and you help out another in need at the same time.

Take them and give the cloths to charity. It is a nice way to get rid of them and you wont hurt her feelings

You take them and tell the person thank you. If you need them, they'll be there. If you don't want them or don't need them pass them down to someone else who will use them or whatever the case might be.

Be polite and thank them for their generosity. Then pay it forward by donating them to a charity or church rummage sale.

Either say thank you and then just give them to charity OR, tell the person "thanks, but they aren't really your size.....maybe _____ would like them or you could donate them to Goodwill."
