Contact the Library of Congress. They have a great site and will tell you all you need to know.

Basically just putting your name and a date on the poem copyrights it, but the LoC copyright carries a lot more legal weight with it.

you would have to submit them to a patent office for approval. if nobody else has a copy write on it then they will give you one. there is a fee tho, how much I dont have any clue of.
