I need some advice on Catholic altar serving. I'm really nervous and stressed out, and last time I did it, I screwed everything up! Any help would be greatly appreciated... Merci beaucoup in advance.

Don't be nervous, for one thing.

Assuming you're new to altar serving, the priest and other altar servers are going to expect you to be a little shaky. It won't be long before you really know what you're doing.

I was an altar server. I felt as if everyone there knew when I'd screwed something up, only to find out that most don't know enough about what an altar server actually does to know whether or not a mistake was made.

I was an altar server before, and I've made HUGE mistakes. Once I actually forgot to fill the cruets with water and wine. I put them out for mass, and not until the priest was about to begin the Liturgy of the Eucharest did he realize they were empty.

As an altar server, I'm sure you can appreciate how small I felt when I realized what I'd done. Mass was held up while I took the cruets out back to fill them up for real.

You'll do fine.

Oh well, I think the first thing is to know that not everybody is waiting for you to make a mistake, so just accept the parts that you do as part of being humble and just go on with the next thing until you get used to it. I am not too sure about the women or girl alter servers though although I myself serve at the Hospital Masses sometimes. I just think that every-time Jesus feeds the multitudes, it is always a young boy who presents the loaves and the fishes and never a girl, but, I suppose he will use whatever he has at the time as long as we are not talking about the priesthood.

Serving at the altar is a big responsibility. The clergy count on your showing up when scheduled. They count on your mature attitude while serving.
Servers are reminded to wear dark colored shoes and to avoid wearing summer sandals (flip-flops) or clogs. Please keep jewelry to a minimum (no large bracelets or hair bows), and refrain from wearing clothing with writing that will show through the alb.

Get to mass Early and practice or ask someone that is a server too..

Pray! Pray to our Heavenly Father through our LORD Jesus Christ, and their HOly Spirit will guide you. Don't worry or stress out, trust in the LORD Jesus CHrist and you'll be fine! God bless

You need to talk to your priest.....it's his job to help you and guide you.

You did screw up too badly....otherwise someone would have offered you guidance.
