Your vet told you just to keep him hydrated? That's all? Huh, and some people accuse vets of trying to do too much just to make money!!!

If your dog is not eating and drinking (or if he's vomiting after eating and drinking) he needs to go to the vet for fluid therapy, as by now he will certainly be dehyrdated. If you see any blood in the vomit or faeces then you need to go to an emergency vet.

Your dog needs to start getting better NOW - i.e if he vomits one more time or has any more bad diarrhoea, get him to a vet without delay. Don't take any 'keep him hydrated' crud, this could be serious!

Furthermore, if ever you're not happy with the advice given to you by a vet, call another.

EDIT: Don't wait as long as 2-3 days for this to start to improve - if this is 'just a stomach upset' you should start seeing an improvement NOW. Another 24 hours of vomiting and/or diarrhoea and things will be very serious.

Sounds to me like he ate more than just crab legs out of your garbage. Were there any other potentially toxic substances in the garbage? If your dog doesn't begin to get better within 24 hours, take him to another vet for a second opinion.

Well, your vet knows best, but if after two to three days your dog shows no improvement, then you need to call your vet again. Don't be afraid to call other vets and get their opinion, too! But remember, if there is no improvement after two to three days, your dog needs to visit a vet. He could have hard parts of the shell lodged in his throat/digestive system that could require surgery to remove. If there is blood anywhere in his vomit or stool, you need to take him to your vet immediately.
