"It is appointed once for man to die and AFTER THIS the judgment." It is an appointment everyone will keep whether they want to or not. THERE IS LIFE AFTER DEATH AND THERE IS DEATH AFTER DEATH. The second death is spiritual and consists of total separation from God in a place the Bible calls the Lake of Fire. The second LIFE is also spiritual and consists of being in the presence of God in a place of peace, joy and love forever. Preparation or the lack therof for both is found in John 3:16-18 -

Read Revelation Chapter 21 especially from the 15th verse on to understand how all this plays out on judgment day.

Was there death before life?

Nope, becuse there is no evidence for there being any sort of afterlife, therefore most likely the after-life was a hman invention created to cause people to worry less about death.

John 6:35-40 (NIV)
Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."

How can we know if there is life after death unless we have experienced it ourselves? We can know by having faith in Jesus Christ. He died, ascended to Heaven, and then was raised again. He was the first so that whoever follows Him will also experience this as well. If you have shared in Christ's death, you will also share in His resurrection. When we have experienced a spiritual death and rebirth, we will be confident in our future hope as Christ will give us blessed assurance by the gift of His Spirit. We can have life after death only if we believe in Jesus. This is what He preached.

Every soul shall taste of death; and We test you with evil and good by way of trial. And to US shall you be returned.

Say, 'The death from which you flee will, surely, overtake you. Then you will be returned unto Him Who knows the unseen and the seen and He will inform you of what you had been doing.'

Yes. That is why Jesus came, so we could have life & have life more abundantly. He Is the Way, Truth & Life. So, when we are born of God through faith in Jesus, we have eternal life within us.

Don't know, haven't died.

I was watching this really cool thing on the History Channel yesterday about the Tibetan Book of the Dead, it was interesting.

It all depends on what you believe, I guess.

No. When you die, your body is no longer able to sustain your consciousness and everything that makes you who you are ceases to exist.
