In the U.K. there is no legal requirement to have lessons before you take your test. However, it is illegal to drive on 'L' plates without a fully qualified driver in the passenger seat.
The chances of passing your test without lessons are very, very remote, though...

There is no legal requirement (at the moment) to have lessons with an instructor but it would be a good idea to.

If you mean you have already had driving lessons gearing up to your test, it's not obligatory to do a lesson on the same day before your test. I would even say depending on the sort of person your are, you might even perform better if you don't before-hand, depending on how your skills peak.

nope. u can go up to the dmv and take the test without any previous knowledge about driving but that doesn't guarantee that u will pass. Why don't u want lessons? I would def be scared of u on the road...

I suppose not but even if you could teach yourself, you need to have a qualified driver in the car with you until you are qualified - so what would they do - just scream? You don't have to pay to have lessons if that's what you meant provided you can find a kind friend to sit with you and be terrified.

If you mean your driving test yes. If you mean your theory, not always but it would be a bonus if you did.
