Another case of quoting half a verse and trying to make it say something which it does not.
18 No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made him known.
In fact you have tried to make it say the exact opposite of what it does say.
To understand the Bible, any passage, you need to read at least the whole chapter where its contained.
You quoted, half of a verse.

I have my NIV Bible sitting on my lap. It says
No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the fathers side, has made him known.
(John 1:18)
To me that says that nobody has ever seen any false gods that some people worship, but that the ONe and Only TRUE god has been made known by Jesus christ. Imnot sure if that is right so I would ask pastor or sunday school teacher
by the way...you should get a NIV version. It makes everything easier to understand.

It is the basis of the triune God, the Father Creator , The Son Redeemer, The Holy Ghost the spirit of the church. The Triune or Trinity is the basis of the Christian Church. the term The Christ or Kristos in old Greek means Son of God where as Emmanuel means God among us which was the call of the Israelites for the Messiah. In all of the Gospels you can find no place that Jesus calls himself God he always refers to himself as the Son of God or Son of the Father.
The belief of Christians is that Jesus came to offer himself as the sacrifice for the "New Covenant of Good" in which his death redeems all of our sins. God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son...(John3: 16, and If any man sins we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous: and he is the perfect offering for our sins, and not for ours alone , but for the sins of the whole world.
Also you must remember that Jesus, when asked about the end of time or the so called Apocalypse, no one may know the time of the coming of God not even his son. The Apostles saw Jesus and Jesus was not and is not God he is his son, please forgive me but I forget where that line is I will add notations later. All this has been said in the Gospels.

No living man has seen God at any time. When we die, we will see God. Some people in the bibical days have seen Jesus, the Son of God! there are three persons in one God. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. this is what is known as the Holy Trinity. It is like a three leaf clover.

Why not read the rest of the passage?
"The Only begotten God, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him."
Verse 14 says:
"The Word became flesh, and dwelt among us"
Verse 1 says:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
If you were really interested in learning the truth, God would begin to teach you.
When you go to the Word of God convinced you know more than God, He really doesn't have anything more He can say to you.

God is a Spirit, and we can't see spirits. Jesus was a man, but He also was the Spirit of God in man, but as carnal beings all they could see was the man. So they crucified Him. If they could have seen the Spirit of God also, where would the gentiles be? It's part of Gods great plan. We are not capable of seeing God in our mortal bodies. We once could, in the Garden of Eden, and we all know what happened there.

Jesus was not God.
Jesus was one of the spirits who had to come in this human life to reach God.
God is a power. It has no name, shape, smell, exixtence or gender.
You can believe all you want and stay away from the real path of reaching eternity.
