If you are being abused or neglected contact your school counselor or your case worker. Call the police if you have to. Otherwise, you will be out when you are 18.

That all depends on your situation. If you are being abused or neglected, you can ask your worker to move you or report the neglect or abuse to a mandatory reporter, such as a teacher, medical professional or therapist.

If you are not being neglected or abused, your case might have a TPR soon or it could have already happened. A TPR is a Termination of Parental Rights, meaning your birth parents no longer have the right to parent you. If this is the case, then usually the plan is to find an adoptive family for the child in question. That might cause you to get a new placement.

Also, you could go into Independent Living at a certain age, where you have your own apartment at 16 or 17.

Finally, you could age out of care, which most foster youth do at the age of 18.

Let me tell you a truth, which is that if your foster mom were your real mom and even if you had a great relationship with her for all of your sixteen years till now, you would probably find life at home unbearable right about now. That is actually very normal for your age and stage of development. If it never got awful at home, teenagers probably would never, ever move out when they became old enough to live on their own, because what would keep them from taking advantage of the free food, rent and laundry service for as long as they could? Usually it is the conflict with parents as they want to be more independent and their parents become extra intrusive in a failing effort to find out what they are doing and to try and keep control. It's NORMAL. Don't assume your life would be better anywhere else. Just hang in there and try and make life easier for your foster mom if you can, because you kind of owe it to her. Two more years is not that long, good luck!

Are you asking if you can live on your own or go back to your birth parents or go to a different foster family?

To live on your own, you must prove you are capable of taking care of yourself. How would you support yourself? Where would you live? How would you continue your education? These are the kind of questions a judge would ask.

Going back to your birth family depends on your birth family and their case workers. If your birth parents are working on their treatment plans that may be an option. If they are not doing what the court ordered, its unlikely you will get to go home.

Changing foster families can be done if you have a legitimate reason for requesting the change. Call your case worker and discuss your options with her.

Tell your caseworker that you are not happy there. If things are bad call the police or child protective services they have a toll free number in the phone book. Be Safe and God Bless You.
