I'm so sorry to hear of your loss!

I am sure a lot of things are probably very confusing to you having to cope with the loss of your parents and your brother taking on the role of brother AND father figure!

First of all, I don't believe that spanking is abuse. I was spanked as a child when I did something that deserved it and now understand why my parents did it.

I am sure your brother is just trying to show you direction (even though you may not see it that way now) and spanking is one quick, effective way to do that. Just as long as it's not a beating or being hit with a closed fist, there's a big difference between a spanking and a beating!

Besides, try to look at it this way. A spanking hurts for a few minutes (a little longer for your pride!) but being grounded lasts longer!!!

I believe you're lucky to have a big brother that cares enough about you and what you're doing to discipline you when needed (and we all need it sometimes!). Isn't it better than him not caring?

I wish you only the best life has to offer and pray that you and your brother try to understand each other and your new roles within the family, and please - hold onto each other and treasure the love you have for each other through good times and bad.

I hope this helps.

Monica :-)

While it might not be abuse, its inappropriate discipline. You are too old for spankings. They won't do any good at this age. However, having things taken away like your tv or computer are completely appropriate.

You need to talk to another family member, such as a grandparent or aunt and have them talk to him, my guess is that he's pretty overwhelmed with raising a child at such a young age and just doesn't know any better.

Of course you could just behave yourself.

HECK NO. If you did something wrong and he"spanks" you...then it means that he is only trying to disipline you and teach you a lesson. Trust me....I had to learn that from experience. he isn't trying to hurt you

No its not he just wants you to stay out of trouble so you wont get hurt. I(18)have legal guardianship of my 2 little sisters(3,5) and I spank them when there wrong. So he is just doing it because he loves you.

Not unless he is leaving a mark that last for longer than 48 hours. That's a guideline that our state DHR uses to decide if excessive force was used.

No, not if you deserve it. However, you have reached the age where other forms of punishment would be more appropriate.

no, abuse would be if he was punching you or hitting you hard enough to cause bruising
