I was raised by my grandmother who was a strict Catholic. Whenever I got in trouble, forget spankings, time outs or groundings, I was sat in a corner with a rosary and made to say it for as long as she deemed appropriate for the "sin". Today may kids don't even know what a rosary is or what it is for! I will stick to time outs thank you very much!

I hated because I said so as a child .too. I hate it even more as an adult, and I DO NOT say it to my kids. I take the time to explain to my kids why I want or don't want them to say so. Kids will usually accept a a logical explanation, get in the habit, it really isn't that hard.

mines "wait until your father gets home" my mom always said that when i was bad and she didn't want to punish me... I can't say that to my own child as his dad isn't a part of his life so i often wonder if his dad was involved if that would be something i would say all the time or not??? I guess i'll never know!!!

I always swore I would never say "because I said so" to my daughter.

I do though :)

My daughter doesn't take any answer at face value, one question, turns into a hour of discussion.

There's a lot of stuff about my parents I couldn't stand growing up, but now I can at least understand why they would say or do certain things.

I said I would never make my kids eat things they didn't like : I do make them take one bite, if they don't like it they don't have to eat it.
And I said I would NEVER lick my finger and wipe something off their face: I don't lick my finger, but I have made them lick my finger and then I wipe it off, it's slightly less gross.
I also used to say that I would never yell at my kids or ground them, but lets face it if I didn't do that I'd be harboring a couple of soon to be fugitives.

My Dad always *made* me eat things I hated. I was a good kid and I like most foods, but I hated seafood. He made me eat it anyway... made me sit at the table allllll night if that's what it took. I swore I would never make my kids eat things they really didn't like. And I don't. Luckily my kids like most things also!

I will never tell my kids they can be something or do something. I dont care if you son is 18 and wants to get married. they need to figure things out for themselves.
