Dear Yahoo!:
Why is the number 666 associated with the devil?
Nadir

Dear Nadir:
The nefarious connotations of 666 weren't invented by some heavy metal band -- they are rooted in the Bible.
The final book of the New Testament is Revelation, and for centuries theologians have pondered its highly symbolic, prophetic language. Revelation tells of impending Armageddon, an end of all time, when a great war will be fought between good and evil, and God will triumph. In Revelation, "the beast," also called the Antichrist, personifies evil.

Revelation, Chapter 13 speaks of the beast and how to identify his followers. According to verses 16 and 17, they will have the mark or the name or number of the beast on their right hands or foreheads. Verse 18 introduces the number 666 itself: "Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six."

It's unclear why the specific number 666 is the number of the beast. According to Dial-the-Truth Ministries, the number 6 is the number of man because in the Bible, God created man on the sixth day. Elsewhere in the Bible (Matthew 16:23), Satan is described as being "man-centered" (as opposed to God-centered). Thus the devil's number would be a twist on man's number. This is just one theory, and the number 666 has generated plenty of debate.

The number 6 represents man, because man was created on the 6th day of creation. The number 3 and 7 are God's numbers, 3 representing the Trinity, and 7 the Sabbath day of rest, on the completion of the creation.

6 expressed 3 times (God's number) as 666 represents a man posing as God. The prophesied Antichrist will do exactly that. He will purport to be the true Messiah and will sit down in the temple of God making out he is a god. He will work so-called wonders (false miracles) to back up his claim, these will fool many people, especially those who are not loyal to Jesus. He will claim that Jesus was not the true Messiah, but an imposter.
The world is preparing for the rule of Antichrist right now, you only have to read some of the posts on this forum to see that faith in Jesus, as the true Messiah and Son of God, is under concerted attack by those who do not love the truth. They are the unconscious agents of Antichrist and because they do not love the Truth and reject Jesus, they will ultimately be fooled into following the Antichrist.
The Antichrist will be an agent of Satan, and his reign as world leader of a world government will be the most diabolical and brutal the world has ever seen. His reign will last for three and a half years, after which he will be destroyed along with those who have chosen to follow him.

If you are truly interested in this, you should read the book of Revelation in the bible. Chapter 13 deals specifically with your questions.

As a Christian, I can say that yes, I believe this. Revelation 13:16-18 says: And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Yes, there is biblical proof that this number has an association with the devil. If you read in Revelation, you will see that the first beast is given power by the dragon. The second beast speaks as a dragon and causes all to worship the first beast. The dragon is Satan. Reading chapter 12 will show you that.

THEY HAVE DISCOVERED THIS CODE!

No joke, the book of revelations, refers to itself! From the beginning of the Book of revelations to the end, each 666th letter spells out SATAN THE ACCUSER.

Tell me that doesn't correspond with

"Let those who have an ear calculate the number of the Beast, for it is the number of a man,666." This was only recently discovered by a computer program searching for codes hidden, God predicted computers."

Not the devil, but the number of the 'beast' in Revelations. I've heard everything from it supposed to mean Nero, to we translated the number wrong and it's supposed to be 616.

I think there is more proof of the number 13 being unlucky.

Apollo 13, buildings with floor 13 absent, planes with no 13th row, re-arraangement of events not to fall on a Friday 13th.

I think the bibble says that 6 is the number of Man. Satan rules Earth, Man lives on Earth, etc etc etc.

Lucky 7? That's Jesus' number.

It's all horse puckey, anyway.
