ok..let me come back to the discussion here and answer some Q's floating around..(and comments) let's see someone from i asume the UK wrote about brainwashing right??...well let's take a look at the defination here:
BRAINWASHING;

(aka thought control, mind control, coercive persuasion). A non-violent method that uses mind control techniques to convince a person to abandon some of their basic beliefs and adopt the beliefs of the indoctrinator. The anti-cult movement teaches that many small religious groups, which they call cults, engage in brainwashing. Sociologists and mental health researchers who are not involved in the anti-cult movement generally reject the concept.

Let me just take a few words out of context here(since i'm a christian and i'm oh so good at this!) it says this...a person to abandon some of their basic beliefs and adopt the beliefs of the indoctrinator...well then i guess we are all being brainwashed in some sorta way right??..by teachers,friends,doctors..ect

If they let their emotions rule them they are not really atheists now are they. They will probably end up turning back to religions, being the ones proclaiming, "I was once an atheist, but I have been saved."

Trauma? Sure, I had a very rough childhood, battled through many other things, more than most I suspect. I am an atheist because I chose to study history, religion, and science. I came to the same conclusion that almost all of the academic community comes up with, that from what we know of the evolution of religion and the laws of our universe, a creator almost certainly does not exist. What can be certain, is that the Abrahamic deity, based on the Judaic faith, was nowhere near the first religion created. Religion first evolved as polytheistic. Even Hinduism is older than Judaism.

Where is this idea coming from that the majority of atheists became so because of religious trauma. It doesn't even make sense! You don't stop believing in god because some mean person at church did something to you, you might stop believing in organised religion!
I checked the facts and came to my own conclusions, nothing particularly traumatic about that!

* Everbody is born atheist, obviously.

* Personally, I never believed any gods were real, just like I never believed any superheroes were real.

* Theists, especially christians, try to control and restrict us based on their views. If all christians stop crusading against science, culture, art, sex and sexuality, religious freedom and such, and stop telling everybody else they're going to be tortured throughout eternity unless they join you, I assure you that you won't encounter nearly as much hostility.

* But there's still no reason to believe ridiculous claims with no evidence whatsoever.

* When you say "God didn't want this to happen" - do you mean things happen against god's will?

* If you love jesus, you're really going to love the earlier gods he was based on:

We don't generally get brainwashed as kids in the UK so it has nothing to do with trauma. The majority of people who were brought up without religion pushed on them wouldn't go anywhere near it. Man's invention as he is scared of dying. This is so obvious I cannot believe people cannot see it.

I'm not an atheist out of trauma. I'm an atheist out of not believing in God. Seriously, my life has not been particularly difficult or tragic. I just don't believe, the whole God idea makes no sense to me.

Yeah, I have a story. I left Christianity because it seemed hollow and stupid...end of story.

Did your pastor tell you this? How many atheists do you know personally? Sounds like you just made that up.

Sorry, you got it wrong, again.

It is spiritual immaturity to lose faith because of other human beings performance. We need to take a personal responsibility with our own salvation.

Sadly, what you say is true. Most who claim to be athiest are really just as religious but are acting out.

What should be a natural state of mind is often just sour grapes.

EDIT: I often refer to them as members of the Church of Pissing Off Daddy
