This morning my 3 month old kitten fell from our landing upstairs (he likes to weave around the railing and walk on the outer edge). I didn't see him fall, but I heard him fall, and when I came downstairs his nose was bleeding! We immediately rushed him to the vet, and noticed that he was limping and his right paw was hurting him. The vet said that he likely bumped his nose/paw on the way down, and that nothing seemed broken. He said he'd probably be okay in a couple days, but to take him in on Monday if he was still limping.

My question to you guys is how can I help him feel more comfortable? He's asleep under one of our big chairs, and is seeming to want his space (which is understandable). He hasn't eaten anything since the fall either. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we can help our baby feel better? Thanks!!!

Also, do you think he's learned not to go near the landing?

Thanks for all your input and concern, he's doing so much better now!! He's up on my shoulders watching the neighbourhood right now. His paw is still a little sore by the looks of things, but he's walking much better and playing. Thanks again!

I would set a bowl of fresh water next to him. Put it in a shallow dish so he doesn't have to lift his head much. Also, keep it quiet around him for awhile. And you are right to give him his space. Cats have remarkable abilities to heal themselves. We humans always feel we have to do something but the best thing is to let him do his own thing. I know, when my kitty gets sick or seems "not right" I hover and dote on her. But she looks at me like "move away woman! I'm okay!" so I do.
He'll be fine. You sound like a very loving pet owner. I hate that phrase because we really don't own them, do we. We are blessed with the privilege of watching over them. And it sounds like you're doing a great job.
By the way, how about putting some sort of fencing where she fell through. Some chicken wire or something? Just till he a little bit bigger.

wanting his space of course is understandable. did you try bringing the food to the kitty? maybe he is just too much in pain to go to the food. you should bring all the things he needs into one room. food water litter box. ect. about the leg, if the vet says it 's not broken, it's probably a sprain, or she bruised it pretty badly. has she walked on it all? if she has walked some , then it is probably just sore. but if she has kept off of it then it may be a little bit worse than sore. keep an eye out and try to keep a distance but tell her that eveything is ok and your here for her. again put everything near her, so that she won't have to go far. and won't stop eating ect. if he still won't eat or get up, try some of his favorite snacks, just so he won't starve. if he doesn't get up at all, i would call.

good luck!!!

Poor baby!
Just make sure he's somewhere soft and pet him gently.
He does need to eat and drink to restore his strength. Make sure he eats a little something every once in a while.
More than likely he also didnt learn his lesson.
My cat always gets stuck behind the washer and dryer without fail at least 3 times a week. He just keeps jumping back there.
You should keep the kitty away from high places that he may fall from. :)

Just leave him be, so he can recover on his own. He'll be fine, and since cats are non-verbal you'll just have to trust him to do what feels best. This probably means he'll just sleep a lot for a few days until the hunger gets unberable, then gorge himself on whatever he can find. Keep setting food out, even if he doesn't eat it, but if he doesn't eat for 3 or 4 days you may want to call the vet again.

Oh, and I doubt your cat has learned about the landing. One of my cats got locked in the linen closet for four days once, and in spite of sleeping in her own crap and starving for half a week, she still wants in!

Well, now that i have heard that, i am going to be way more careful with our cats! Just talk to him, and pet his paw, and don't worry about him eating, sometimes you can't make kittens eat. And I don't know if he will go near the landing, it just depends on how stupid he is.

He will probably be okay. Cats love heating pads or hot water bottles because it reminds them of their mother. Put a heating pad under a blanket to keep the cat from clawing it. Put it on a medium setting. He will be happy! I have five cats : )

you should cuddle him a little bit every day and try to clean the spot and make it smell diferent so he might not be scared of it.
