Yes they do.
Because of this, they believe that a 5-year-old stealing candy from a supermarket should get the same punishment as an adult who has murdered 5 people.
It's sad really.

Who cares what Christians believe?
Who cares what Pastor Art thinks?
What you should be asking is this: "What does God teach in His Word about this?"
Murder is way different than steeling.
Exodus 22:1
"If a man steals an ox or a sheep and slaughters it or sells it, he must pay back five head of cattle for the ox and four sheep for the sheep.
That entire chapter talks about protection of property and how a thief should be punished.
Here is some teaching about one who committs murder:
Numbers 35:16-18
16 " 'If a man strikes someone with an iron object so that he dies, he is a murderer; the murderer shall be put to death. 17 Or if anyone has a stone in his hand that could kill, and he strikes someone so that he dies, he is a murderer; the murderer shall be put to death. 18 Or if anyone has a wooden object in his hand that could kill, and he hits someone so that he dies, he is a murderer; the murderer shall be put to death.
If you read the entire chapter, you see how to handle an accidental death, what we call manslaughter, today.
So please don't tell me that the Bible says God looks at all sins the same way.
I could give examples from the New Testament as well.

A sin is anything that draws you away from God. Both murder and theft are equal in that respect. They are also equal in that all sins are forgiven when you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior. The only sin that cannot be forgiven when you die is rejecting Christ, not believing in Him beforey you leave this world. Sins are also equal in that if you commit any one of them, your reward is nothing less than an eternity in Hell if you do not accept Jesus as the Son of God.
The only reason some sins are considered greater than others is because humans made them that way. One of the factors used is the physical and emotional impact a given sin has on a person and those around him/her.

The Catholics came up with the idea of cardinal and venial sins, that is, of greater and lesser sins.
The fact is, sin is sin. God punishes sin. It is a level playing field. As the scripture says, All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Do not misunderstand- some sins are more grievous, have a deeper impact. In that way, of course they can be seen as worse.

They are equal in the sense that they carry the same penalty. The wages of sin is death. Sin is transgression of the law. If you live by the law and yet you offend in one point, you are guilty of all. That means that we are all guilty of all. And that is why Jesus came to pay the penalty of sin for us. Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth. Romans 10:4 King James bible

No. We believe that all sins are equally capable of separating us from God, but that's not the same as saying all sins are equal.

Yes, sin is sin, scripture tells us this. Only one sin is unforgivable in the eyes of God. Human punishment for different crimes have nothing to do with this, since some sin isn't considered a crime.

"equal" in what sense? Yes they're equal in that they are all sins. Just as every one in the world is equal in that we are all human beings.

wow...it's really amazing how people who aren't Christians answer the questions for us. We do not "rape women". If some Christians feel a certain way that's fine but it is unfair to categorize us all the same. God sees all sins as the same. As human beings I don't think it's possible for us to see all sins as the same.

I don't believe that, in fact that isn't true at all. There are small sins- like swearing or stealing, and then there are big ones- like fornication, adultery and murder. The biggest sin is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. That is one that God won't forgive. Murder is almost impossible to be forgiven of, as is fornication and adultery.

Yes, many of them do. I've read dozens of answers on here telling me that homosexuality is the same as murder, stealing, adultery, etc. Loving someone is the same as killing them? I mean really.
