If your cat has no litter tray available, then he has to go to the toilet somewhere and in all honesty it's better he does it in your own garden than someone else's. If you are upset about the smell, imagine how non cat owners feel when their garden is used as a toilet. I always provided mine with a litter tray which they could nip back indoors to use. I'd rather be cleaning a litter tray than having my neighbours angry with my cat. They were also kept indoors overnight so it made sense for that reason too.
When he leaves his faeces exposed on top of the grass, it's a deliberate act. He's not just going to the toilet, he is scent marking to warn other cats that your garden is his territory. It's perfectly natural and reasonable for him to do this, especially if there are other cats living locally and there are any boundary disputes between them. For all you know, he may be doing the same in the fields anyway.
I'm afraid you need to accept him using your garden or provide him with a litter tray instead. Using repellants to make him go outside your garden, may just end up making your cat unpopular with your neighbours, which could be a bigger problem than having to clean up after him.

Put his poo in the field so that he learns to go there. But I don't see why there is a problem if he is pooping in your garden. He's your cat so he should poo on your property not anyone elses. If you own the field then disregard that last remark. How come your garden smells? Cat poo only stinks for a few minutes after it has been done, and even then you shouldn't smell it as the fresh air would take it away. I don't think you are prepared to be a cat owner.

Where do you want him to poo. There have been lots of questions on here about cats that poo all round the house but not outdoors. They would probably be pleased with your boy.My cat,a girl, goes in her litter tray. She an be out in the garden all day ,but still comes indoors to wee and poo.Costs me a fortune in at litter. The tray is in my conservatory. I usually leave the kitchen door open so she can get to the tray and her water in the night. She is getting on now and does not stay out all night. In the morning sometimes the whole house stinks if she has pooed in her tray.I have to open the patio doors, put the tray in the garden and use a lot of air freshener. For all this ,I have had her for 18 years and she is part of the family. So she is forgiven.

Hi, as he grows older and he starts to venture further he will start to poo in the fields, this does not mean he wont poo in your garden he is marking his territory when he sprays and poo's in your garden. Try putting a litter tray somewhere sheltered in your garden. It is just normal for cat's to soil on their territory, and it's better than having an irate neighbour coming round because your cat has dug up his plants.

Thats where they are supposed to poo! Unless you want to get a litter tray so he can poo in the house. Or maybe you'd prefer he just pooed in other peoples gardens! Honestly!

It's supposed to poo in the garden. (Mine did) When they are outside, there is no litter box anyhow?
Plus why worry about it, it will work as manure in the garden and your plants will grow better.

Go to PetSmart and a box of the crystals that get animals to not poop in your garden, or wherever you spread the crystals. They come in a container like a milk carton, and will last until it rains. They cost ten bucks, but seem to do the job.

you cant really train cats the only thing that can think of is if you but bottled water around the garden and maybe if you squirt some orange, lime or lemon the cat may stop and every time u catch him tell him off but be gentle.
