Here's a cool link to a place where you learn recipes for foods and foods to prepare for your cockatiel. No people chips!! They're bad for you, let alone your sweet bird.

Here's a list from the link that shows "good" people foods.

"Feed your birds a wide variety of greens and fruits, vegetables, breads, meats and cereals. Be careful with meat - tear it up into small enough pieces so that your bird will not choke on it. Avoid milk, as birds lack the enzyme necessary to digest lactose and they may get diarrhea. Because of the way they are processed, however, cheese and yogurt can be fed without a problem. You should also avoid alcohol, avocado, caffeine, chocolate, rhubarb leaves and anything high in sugar, fat, or salt.

Feed the table foods in separate containers from their regular food, and remove after a few hours, especially in the heat of summer.

Suggestions:

* Dark green vegetables like broccoli, kale, spinach, dandelion greens, collard greens, mustard greens.
* Vegetables high in carotene, such as sweet potatoes, yams, carrots, red peppers.
* Other vegetables: turnips, green beans, peas, corn, tomatoes, legumes (like chick peas and kidney beans), hot peppers.
* Fruits (no pits or cores, please): apples, grapes, bananas, oranges, melons, apricots, peaches, plums, oranges, tangerines, pomegranates, watermelon, kiwi.
* Table food: cheese, eggs, pasta, rice, potatoes, wheat bread.

Note that your birds will have looser, more watery droppings when fed more fruits and vegetables.

It is not necessary to add vitamins to your bird's diet when it is eating a wide variety of vegetables and fruits. We do not recommend that vitamins be added to the water as they attract bacteria almost immediately, which feeds and grows off the vitamins."

I let my bird sample most of what I eat. Although I do not give her red meat, anything greasy, too salty, or avocados. She tends to love pasta with garlic She also likes chicken and absolutely loves turkey on Thanksgiving Day. When I fix pasta, she must have her own container; with the turkey, she has to be locked up to keep from eating it. Sometimes, she just wants a little taste of what I am eating. With chips, I let her take a bite or two and no more, that tends to keep her happy. The basic rules I follow are to let her eat all she wants of vegetables, fruits and pasta. She can have just a little chicken and a little bit of eggs. Anything I serve her has very little to no oil and salt. I never let her eat anything cooked in a non-stick pot.

I have 18 cockatiels.

Fruits and veggies: They love corn. Corn on the cob (raw or cooked), and frozen corn. Fresh and frozen peas and carrots. Romaine lettuce. And, to a lesser degree: apples

Whole wheat bread.

Unsweetened grain cereals like Rice Krispies and Cheerios.

They can eat chips but only the low or un salted ones are recommended. un salted nuts (peanuts, almonds, walnuts, etc.)
In addition, you may give your cockatiel a bit of rice if that helps. But watch out for is chocolate and avocados - it's a poison to the birds!...

Just a bit of chips. They are too salty, but mine loves people food. He doesn't eat much, just wants to know that he can have it. He loves popcorn, so we air pop it mostly for him. He likes a bite of mashed potatoes, whole wheat bread, cereal, crackers, Max & cheese, loves corn. He mostly wants it because he sees us eating it. Caffeine is a no no, so no coke or coffee. They should eat fruits & vegetables but mine won't eat much of them. That is because he is spoiled.
