My 13 year old is travelling to AZ and I don't want to send cash. He is too young for travelers checks because you must show id to cash them. Any suggestions?

Give him a Visa Buxx card. You can monitor his spending on-line at all times right down to where, how much and when he spent the money. You can add money to it at any time on-line too. It works just like a Visa debit card, he can withdrawal money from any ATM machine (no ID needed just a pin number) or use it like a credit card. My kids have had one for years and they work great. Unlike an American Express card, Visa is taken everywhere.

The best part is everything is done on-line. If he needs money right now, you can put it on the card and he can access it within a minute. You have complete flexibility as does he.

If he's not gone yet, then I don't understand why not giving him cash. A travelers check should be fine, because all middle and high schools in the US are required to give a school ID, with picture and age identification.

You can also get him a debit or credit card before he leaves, if you feel comfortable with that. Then you can deposite any money in anytime...

There are pre-paid credit cards you can buy now. I saw an ad for them at either Wal-Green's or Rite-Aid.
