I would definetly consider 10 / 11 too young to take care of my children.

I would say 10 is to young. at 10 your still in the child stage yourself even though you are responsible and mature and smart. But I don't leave my children with any one under the age of 18 only because younger people (exspecially teenagers) do not know enough about children to watch them they spend more time talking on the phone or whatever then they do taking care of the kids. If I was you wait a cpl more years then get first aid and CPR certified before you go to watch children on your own. Parents will be more comportable leaving their children with you if you know those things. But not at 10 sorry

Well, sparkleranee, you got a few pointed answers there from parents who will probably still be hiring babysitters when their kids are 10 or 11. That is the reality of your situation: most parents consider you are too young and inexperienced to sit for their children.
Here is another opinion. I started to care for children under adult supervision as a mother's helper when I was about 11 or 12. I helped mothers dress, feed and care for their children; watched them at the park, etc. The mothers all knew my mother and knew that I had a Girl Scout childcare badge, too. Once they trusted me, they began to leave me completely in charge for short times: a trip to the grocery store, for example. By the time I was 14, I was a well-paid and trusted babysitter.

Babysitter no hon...thirteen is even young...
A mother's helper..definately a yes...I was a mother's helper of five kids and they were a handful for that blessed mother! It will give you more confidence and the word will get out about your skills on the positive side.
When you are around fifteen or sixteen you can pick up bucks with the long term sitting and night sitting. If I were you I would get several mother's helper jobs during the week/summer and lay the trust foundation for a community sitter service with girls under me!

Well,in most states, you can take babysitting classes from the red cross from age 11-14 and I think you should take classes then you should get your lisence and then I might trust you! I was babysitting when i was about 11 or 12.

yes, sitting is a huge responsibility. If something happened to the baby/kid you are sitting you would feel horrible.
A great idea would be for you to be a mother's helper. You babysit while the mom is at home, but doesn't have time to watch after the baby/kid! Sounds like you would be wonderful at that and it is age appropriate for sure.

Personally I think a 10 year old is far too young to baby sit, despite being mature enough to perhaps take care of them selves I would never put them in charge of other childeren I would say at least 16 years old.

I wouldn't let anyone under the age of 18 handle children. I would prefer if they were CPR and First Aid certified and have had prior babysitting experience.
