Looking at this site I have to wonder at all the bad blood between athiests and Christians. it really saddens me. i'm a Christian and my boyfriend, Jack B who's on here all the time, is a athiest. We have our ups & downs but religion is one thing we've agreed not to fight over and we even try to discuss it calmly. Why do a lot of the questions and answers on here seem so full of anger? Can't everyone respect each others beleif and not get mad?

It is possible for both sides to co-exist as you and Jack demonstrate.

Sometimes, some of us just get angry. Honestly, you can only handle so much of the name calling and such. I usually only get angry as a result of other anger and mistreatment. I don't go after Christians (or Atheists . . . as I am Agnostic) just because they are Christians or Atheists. I go after them if they attack.

Oh, and btw, hi, Jack B's girlfriend! He's a smart guy, but you need to snap his rear end into line a little more. (Totally, totally joking.)

It's kind of hard not to read what is said on here, especially when you see that someone is bashing God and telling people not to believe in him because he is not real. There could be a lot of lost souls that are searching for the truth and are leaning towards being saved and then there's those comments that can really confuse someone about doing the right thing. I know everyone has the right to have their own opinion about God and religion, but being a Christian, it's my job to try and lead the lost to God. And yes, I do get upset when I read the awful comments that are made against my Lord and Savior. But all I can do is pray for the lost and hope that one day they will realize that there is a God and except him into their lives before they die and burn in hell for eternity. Have a Blessed Day.

We don't usually fight talking about are beliefs. The problem happens when someone tries to push their religion onto someone else. I personally am a christian. I defend my point of veiw put don't try to force it on anyone. If somebody wants to sit down and talk to me about it thats fine with me. I had an Atheist science teacher who tried to make us all into good little athiest. I was a pain in the neck for her all year and got called alot of names, but i don't care. Nobody is gpiong to make me an atheist and i'm not going to make anyone a christian (without the lords intervention). your doing the right thing with your boyfriend.

As an atheist, the only thing that troubles me more than rude, obnoxious religionists, is obnoxious, unintelligent, inarticulate atheists. Both sides have more than enough flamers who contribute nothing to courteous, meaningful dialogue. I can discount religionists who disagree with me because I would expect them to disagree with my position. That some of them get stupid and offensive proves, at least to me, the concept that religion at its core is irrational. However, I find it embarrassing and troubling that when I post a few simple questions, as an atheist, exploring the possibility of biological and other phenomena that might be sources of religious experience and therefore, possibly the root causes of religons, that other atheists attack me and demonstrate just how ignorant and profane they can be... all because I'm suggesting there may be environmental antecedants that lead to religious peceptions and the rise of religious ideas. I, in no way, endorse or support religion; but I get attacked for merely suggesting we study the phenomena rationally. An atheist that starts frothing at the mouth when someone suggests we use the scientific method to study a human phenomenon, namely religion, isn't really well-suited to be an atheist and is an embarrasment to the entire atheist community. The only thing I hate more than the loudmouths on the "other team" would have to be the idiots shouting on "my side." But what can you expect in an unregulated medium where the discourse is as coarse as possible? Yahoo!Answers is a profound failure and I look forward to its demise.

Most of the nasty stuff I see posted is from young people. Middle school age kids are on this site. 10 and 11 year olds.

My eyes roll a lot at Christians that don't know what is written in their own Bible.

Kerroline, this is a question that has been asked over and over on here. Unfortunately, no matter how nice someone is, there is always going to be someone who will not accept that. There are always people that are going to be like " you either believe what I believe or else." And, as Christians animosity is something that we just have to accept. We are going to encounter it more and more. That's why we just have to trust in God and put everything in His hands.

Very good question. Maybe since I am agnostic (also known derisevly as a fence-sitter by some athiests) I can understand BOTH beliefs.

I can understand the line of reasoning that would lead to either conclusion that Gods exists or not. Since Christianity is the predominant religion in America, and most people were either raised Christian or exposed to it an early age, most of the theists in this country are going to be Christian.

I definitely don't consider myself a Christian by any stretch, my concept of God, if there is such a thing, tends to lean towards a pantheistic belief.

I have no problem with what people BELIEVE, it's people's actions that I care about, and I won't excuse what I consder adverse actions, even if someone tries to justify it with religion or any other idealogy.

My biggest problem with the actions of some Christians is when they attempt to use the strong arm of the gov't to enforce their strictly religious beliefs onto non-believers. (Sabbath Laws, Blasphemy laws, mandatory school prayer laws, teacher led school prayer, with a supposed opt-out HA ! ) etc.

As long as people have a live and let live attitude, then I really don't care what their religious beliefs are. Well, I find other religious beliefs interesting, but it doesn't bother me if their beliefs are different. It's only when someone trys to force them on me, or tells me that I am evil that I don't particularly care for it.

I used to feel the same way you do,HOWEVER, when you become certain of who you are and what your faith means to you, and who is Lord and God over your life, you too, will have to take a side. You may choose to continue a relationship with Jack, if you want, but do you really want to risk losing your relationship with Christ?
Check out Romans 8:1-There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ...
If you are in Christ you will not be condemned, but what about Jack, is that something you want for someone you love?
Also, you cannot serve God and the Devil, or nothingness for that matter. You have to choose!!!

Lucky you, that Jack B is cute.

I know what you mean. But you do not have to dive into that bad blood. I think it is interesting to have a conversations with different people.

I hardly ever get mad. I might be a little bit sharp with my words, but I try my best not to behave. LOL. Hard at times. ; )

There is a core of people here who are like that (accepting of each other). How long have you been around? You'll start to see who's being funny, and who's dead serious. The people who take this site too seriously seem to burn out really quickly...=0)
