Well, considering how many responses you've already received, not one of them has given you the correct name of what .pdf means. It's Portable Document Format.

The responses that tell you it's opened by Adobe Reader are correct. It's also a fact that you can download Adobe Reader free of charge. Go to http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html and download the latest version. (It's for Windows XP by the way. If you need an earlier version for an Operating System other than Windows XP go to http://www.oldversion.com/ and scroll down to where it says Utilities. It's there.)

It's a document which is saved in pdf format and is used for display, posters, artwork etc. Most importantly, it can't be edited directly*. Thus companies etc use the pdf format as it's more secure.

It's a file associated with the Adobe Acrobat Reader, basically it's a text file that is realy hard to open because no-one uses them for general puroise these days.

To open it, you will need the specified program, which I believe is free from the official site: www.adobe.com
