Knaus was penalized LAST year. He has not had any problems this year thus far. The drama this year surrounded Earnhardt, and I believe Tony Stewart (imagine that!). Jimmy Johnson won the Daytona 500 without his crew chief last year in 2006--because of a suspension and fine. (Harvick won this year)

And in defense of the Hendricks team---cuz Gordon got it too--they are working on the "car of tomorrow" these are new cars, and they may not have known that there would be a penalty resulting from what they did. Jeff Gordon wouldn't jeopardize his points lead over something this trivial, when he doesn't need the alterations to win, and neither does Jimmy. Jimmy is reigning Nextel Cup CHAMP--and Jeff is in the lead this year. What is the point??? It isn't like they are sitting on the edge of the top 12 or anything.

As it was already stated, Knaus is not on suspension, that was from last year. This was a whole different car and was even deemed by Nascar to be a "COT penalty" because the tolerances are much more stringent on the new car. What they did is something that would have been perfectly LEGAL on the old car and was just part of the learning curve.

It's amazing, even when the "golden boys" get nailed with something, people still think they are in Nascar's pocket somehow. It's impossible to argue with these people. They don't get caught with anything, that means they're getting preferential treatment ... they do get nailed for something and they're getting preferential treatment ... what do you want ... anyone who gets caught with something is kicked out for life? (unless of course it's YOUR favorite driver)

Imagine what football would be like if someone was kicked off the team everytime they committed a penalty ... no, 10 yards isn't enough, they should be fired! I'm so sick of this conspiracy theory crap!!

Go Hendrick!! 5 / 24 / 25 / 48

If you wouldn't want someone like Chad as your crew chief you would be lying to yourself. He is an innovator and proven he's not afraid to push the envelope. The area that they messed with was not a part of the rigid template for the COT. Because it was a "gray area" Chad and Steve decided to test the waters and see where they stood. Well, they found out. Now they, and all the other teams know that you can't do that. They have already been penalized with the loss of practice time and not being allowed to qualify. They will still get more penalties but they shouldn't be as severe as what I have seen many people saying. You don't consistently win races and contend for championships by following what the other teams are doing. Sometimes when you try to lead the pack you are the first one in line for getting in trouble. They won't try that again and the 24 and 48 teams are still the ones to beat for this year's championship.

Because Knaus has had a history, unless NASCAR wants to piss off a lot of people, Knaus (and Jimmie Johnson) will get a much worse penalty than what Jeff Gordon and his crew chief will be getting.

Knaus will more than likely be suspended for quite a bit of time (maybe and indefenite suspension, like what Michael Waltrip's crew chief got, and it will be enforced for quite a bit of time), and lots more points taken, more than 100, that would be for sure, as well as the cash being taken.

Yeah I do think it should be more severe. I think that they should suspend him for the rest of the season. I think the last time he was suspended, he was gone for three or four races and Jimmie won the Daytona 500 and another race, i think California, but I'm probably wrong on that. But his team performed exceptional so if knaus gets suspended again. I would expect that Jimmie would win many races and then the Championship. It's typical to see teams do really good when surrounded by controversey.

I'm a Jr. fan. I am also a huge fan of Knaus! I think he is probably the smartest man in the pits. I would have to say that he has shown that he has clearly disrespected NASCAR's attempt to keep all cars equal. He knows from attempts by others such as Earnhardt and Waltrip what Nascar's intentions are. With Knaus's past record of attempted violation I do believe he should sit the season out. If Tony Eury Jr was to commit another crime he would have to sit this season out. Nascar started the harsher penalties before this year began. He was well aware of the penalties and chose to violate them.

Chad has been suspended 3 times in the past 4 seasons Ray Evernhame when he was chief for the 24 comes in at #3 on the all time cheater chart. To me that shows a trend at HMS. Now having said that Nascar has never looked to previous seasons when determining a penalty so I don't Think it should be anymore than they have imposed on anyone else.

WHATEVER.... next time get your facts in your question right, okay???

CHAD KNAUS HAS NOT GOT CAUGHT CHEATING THIS YEAR.. IT WAS AT THE BEGINING OF THE YEAR LAST YEAR AND JIMMIE WON THE DAYTONA 500 WITHOUT HIM.. BUT KNAUS IS SMART AND IT WASNT LIKE IT WAS A MAJOR CHEAT... IF THEY WOULDNT HAVE DONE THAT, THEY STILL WOULD HAVE GOT SECOND AFTER JEFFY.... SO IT DONT MATTER.. BUT THEY WILL BE IN THE BACK AND STILL WIN AND I WILL LAUGH @ U GUYS!!!!!

Knaus's last suspension was in 2006. Probation period is over. Unfortunately.

He also had one in 2005. His probation period then was for 90 days.

And violations in 2002/03.

See a pattern here? Cheat, get wrists slapped and do it again the next year.

Kinda makes you wonder if what they got caught for this week played a part in all of the other COT wins they have had this year.

Heavens yes!! He's gotten away with TOO much already!!!
He shouldn't be there for AT LEAST 8 races!! If not the rest of the season!
Gordon's crew chief should be gone for at least 4 races!!
Though I don't think either of that would make a difference!
They may not win today... but wait... they'll be back!!!
